Steve was among the greatest of American inventors- brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

RIP
Steve Jobs
But I gotta say it.
Really?
I realize that facebook ('specially in the last five years) has gutted and rerenovated the entire social landscape.
But I don't think there has been an out-poring of public grief at this level since...jeez...John Lennon?? Not for Jim Henson. for Carl Sagan. for Jimmy Stewart...not even for Sinatra or Reagan (or Mother Teresa for that matter).
I did, and continue to respect Jobs as one hell of an entrepreneur (on par with Carnegie, Rockefeller, Morgan, Gates, etc.)
Though comparisons to Ford and Edison are going a bit far IMO.
I especially love the Pixar/Disney chapters of his story.
That being said, what am I missing here?
Is this just the result of the ever shrinking world we live in?
-or-
Does it speak to this being a generation completely driven by mind/technology (as opposed to heart/passion)?
I agree he wanted to do things differently. For the computer industry it is without a doubt equivalent to John Lennon dying, maybe even more so. I think what makes Jobs different from Gates or Rockefeller or Morgan is that there is an artistry to what he did. He wasn't just interested in selling a product and making tons of money. He was interested in making BEAUTIFUL products that made people's lives better, which is why folks feel differently about him, and view him like an artist as much as a businessman. They can see his soul in the products he made. That elevates him beyond the typical entrepreneur.
I agree he wanted to do things differently.
Hence his hiring the ad company to create the infamous "1984" commercial.
But I see all history's great entrepreneurs taking that "different" (dare I say out-of-the-box) approach.
That's, in large part, what brought them to the level of Titan...
Great point....Also, his work affects people now...
