Red Scarlet footage anyone?

the more you hate the scarlet, the more i want it :p
I don't hate the Scarlet. Never have. I just don't drink Kool-aid and I'm not a fanboy. The thread is "Where is the Red Scarlet footage". I'm just as interested as anyone else. But if budget and price were of no concern, I'd buy an Alexa or the C300 for what and how I would use a camera.
What I'm asking for is footage. To see this camera in action. Even RED has no time to share the camera in action? Fishy. They did a big slo-mo of the 2/3rd Scarlet. Why can't SOMEBODY at RED take an hour and shoot some people in the different modes?

I don't want to make excuses for RED but I just don't think they had the time. The change from 2/3 to 4k seemed to be a pretty abrupt change at the last minute. I do agree with you though, I want to see footage at all the different resolutions. Give it a few weeks, there will be more than enough footage for you to "not hate". ;)

As for the 4k - 24p clip that Tonaci posted - I was VERY impressed with it! :) (http://vimeo.com/32843511)

There's a strong resentment against anything from RED by some people. There probably always will be. Personally I think until you actually use one, edit the footage and see what you can do, one shouldn't make judgments. I've shot and edited multiple shorts on a RED ONE and an MX and always have had a great experience. Very easy to edit on my dual core machine. And having 4K footage gave me options for cropping and framing the final output-- options I wouldn't have had if I shot in HD. But hey, I wasn't shooting talking orange videos for Youtube, so maybe my needs and workflow don't mesh with most of the users here.

Great points!

Simon

I would be nice to see all modes (frame rates and res) shown. Well all know that it can do 24p 4K. Lets see the rest of it being 60fps 2k, 48 fps 3k, and yes the 120 fps 1k (I've heard there is problems with the 120 fps 1k).

Tonaci's Scarlet Video #2, the San Diego harbor shots, has 12 fps 5k, 24 fps 4k and 48fps 3k all in the one clip

Again, assumptions. Why would you assume that people who dislike Red haven't shot on it? Or if they have, only shot talking oranges? To be quite honest, nowadays a slightly talented and knowledgable DP can make great looking footage out of anything from a 7D to an Alexa, its that easy! The problem, for me, is the way people act out of all the things Red does. They've turned camera business into a pizza business. A business that didn't needed to be hacked in the first place!

I'm all for them pushing the boundaries and making other companies step up their game (even though that's entirely subjective), but its nauseating some of the things I hear and read, especially on the Red Forum. Its just scary sometimes, exactly like Kool aid loonies...

So don't be surprised to hear that a lot of people are repulsed by them. Red functions in a very specific way, you either love them or hate them. And only a very few percentage don't give a s**t. For now, I prefer to despise them. They're attitude reminds me of everything that is wrong with the world... a 'Religious' like following. Its sickening. And its extremely sad that such an entity has entered an industry I so dearly love and live by.

I really hope they can change their ways in the future. It would be great if they could continue working on their cameras, but just drop the attitude.

Unlike what they advertise, good films are the product of a lot of hard work and passion. Not specs!

At the sametime people should know what they are getting into. 4K means more than just the camera. You need a fairly hefty computer for the post processing, the camera is forever in a "beta" stage. It all around will cost more $$$. It is not for the faint of heart. People should know the advanges and limitations to any camera before purchasing. $14-20K is a lot of money for the average joe, and is it worth the benefit?

I believe the reason is RED's market place. High-End professionals who have used other high end cameras from Arri, Panavision, and the likes, are comparing it to those standards. While people from the video world are comparing it to the FS100/AF100/DSL/ or 3-Chip cameras. Throw in the backlash of the cultism, fanboyism of other cameras, and the disappointment and delays of the Scarlet drama and you have a divided market. (3k for 3K by 2009 anyone?)

And this is a logical business perspective because...?

This is the reason I check this thread occasionally. The camera has been released. Yes? (if not, fine, we're patiently waiting) If the camera has been released, why are there not dozens or hundreds of sample clips of flowers and water and city streets on Vimeo?

I forget where I read it, but someone stated that it wasn't functioning as of yet. But, if someone would ACTUALLY show that it is, then we would know. Although, I think the function is worthless anyway.

why be worried about a feature that is not enabled yet, that you see as pointless, in a camera you seem to have no interest in getting?

to be honest I understand being interested in footage from cameras you'll never purchase but might use or run into, but just being a debby downer isn't really adding to the thread or helpful, you got footage, didn't like it, and asked for more... fair enough but the OP has been answered despite if you liked the provided footage or not, want better footage start a new thread specifying exactly what you would like to see and complain when people use the current videos as examples there, then again considering your opinion I'm not sure why you care or would go to those lengths so I guess I understand asking for it here but stating the OP has not been answered is a bit of a stretch to me.

no hard feelings hopefully, I just find it interesting how people seem to post far more often about products they will never purchase than products they will and have(or at least it feels that way). I think far too many people are drinking the ani-kool-aid(and the kool-aid), why do we always have to live in extremes you know there is a very meaty healthy middle ground here why do we have to resort to the extremes every time...*screechy crackly voice* why can't we all just get along.... sorry been a while since I had a rant for morals and ethics on the internet and life in general, I will now slink back into the shadows of the internet and leave you to your regularly scheduled program.

have a fun!

P.s. I hate the term drinking kool-aid and understand that I used it but feel it should die a horrible horrible death like all other industry buzz words... sorry just had to say it

If you think editing R3D takes a hefty computer then you're repeating lies. Plain and simple. My dual core 2.6 with 4G of RAM can edit 4K footage just fine.

For straight edits, but anything beyond that you are going to need a pretty good computer. Plus hard drive space. Lets not kid ourselves or others. Owning a RED is not cheap compared to a non-professional camera.

Of course. But it's not the insurmountable obstacle that is described everywhere. so many people are just repeating what they heard from other people who never tried the cam themselves.

This is especially true of the Red.
