Re: A7SII ANNOUNCED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could someone with an A7sII shoot some skin tone tests under LED lighting? I'm very curious to know whether the A7sII with S-Log3 produces better skin tones than the A7s with S-Log2. After much difficulty with SLog2, I've mostly been shooting with PP off or in PP4 mode, but I'd like to know if S-Log3 will perform better vis a vis skin tones for talking head interviews.

^ I think sgamut3.cine is what you're asking for (not the gamma curve, but the color map). I'd be interested too.

slog3+sgamut3.cine is A LOT better than slog2+sgamut

Mainly because sgamut is highly nonlinear and results in changes in skin tone depending on brightness, the famous yellow patch issue, etc. Sgamut3.cine is linear and should be free from all these issues.

+1

Well, fingers crossed mine arrives tomorrow, i've just heard that it's in stock.

cheers

Hi Paul, could you try recording internal 4K for 15-20min on your A7S2?

In light of Dan Chung's experience with the Sony A7R2 overheating after 15-20 minutes shooting 4K internally, I'm very eager to find out how long the A7S2 can record 4K internally before overheating occurs. Of course, I wouldn't shoot an interview with internal 4K to avoid that risk, and I usually don't shoot more than a few minutes at a time when filming b-roll, but the overheating issue is concerning.

It would be interesting to see if Sony has been able to improve on this in any way with A7s2

It may be sample variation with the A7rII, but I've done a few run tests in midday sun and always hit the recording limit without the camera shutting down in s35 mode - which overheats much faster than FF. I only ran it a few times because my talking head stuff never goes longer than 5-10 minutes, but I averaged about 40 minutes in s35 and about 70 minutes in FF before it completely shut down. Using the lower bitrate got me even more time and for interviews its fine.

I'd be surprised if the A7sII is worse.

If you were hoping for a rolling shutter improvement :violin: @Driftwood_Prods: "Rolling shutter 4K is pretty bad, HD good. Same as A7RII. Tested with metabones and EF glass range"
