Since I've bought the GH1 or GH1K (which I assume "K" is for kit) 1 month ago, I've tried about 20 times to get the hack to work. I have followed the directions completely. Using a full battery, ticked the Version Increment, and Prevent Version Compare. My bin is named GH1__133.bin. Load the SDCard and push play and... nothing.

The camera was bought new August 3rd through G&H. I am a novice photographer, but not a novice videographer. I've rooted my Nexus One, and modded my XBOX, but hacking this camera is driving me insane. :kali:

I've used Windows 7 via Parallels and the OS X Wined tool.

I can't find one "VIDEO" tutorial that actually walks a person through the hack. I only find various textual walkthroughs that are each different in little ways. Either, Panasonic has done something to my camera to prevent this hack, or I am missing something major. I am using an LX Series 32 GB Class 10 SDcard btw.

I only bought this camera because of the hack. I am in Beijing and am about to go into some rural areas of China with some epic scenery. I really need 1080p for the areas I'm going. What a waste of a trip this will be for content without this hack. :cry:

Same. Except I've changed my settings four times before. I dunno why it isn't working this time. My camera has been hacked successfully before.

Both boxes set, I settings fast action gop. Version change and version increment ticked, gh1 two underscores 133 dot bin. It doesn't work when pushing play.

I tried lots, I'm saving to the card, formatting it before i do, trying many numbers, it's driving me mad. Dunno what to do. Searched everywhere for this troubleshoot and nothing. Reading questions like I'm quoting and nothing. Please. I beg someone please help. I swear to GOD almighty I've been reading I'm missing something.

Tried again. Formatted card in Lumix. Saved file to card. I have no idea the last time which number I used it was 133 then I dunno if I went past 135. Tried all numbers same way till 139. Nothing

back to 133. nothing.

I have no clue what I'm doing but it's been all day and I can't leave this pc alone. I really, really have no clue what I'm missing.

I swear I did this before and it worked more than twice and for the life of me I can't remember doing anything that I'm not doing now.

Battery is full. Even once worked connected to electricity and that doesn't work today as well. Same camera, never went to repairs.
 
I figured it out. I knew what I was doing wrong. It's the increment values. I finally found the thread. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=212263&page=17 last post by tyampel. explains it.

Now to the settings, lpowell's, both of em, good mjpeg but verry abnormally bad avc. like not even 10 mbits. i got some files int he kilobits. And their mjpeg counterparts (same shots same time) were up in the 50s for one and 20s for the other. Strange. Will post in appropriate thread.
 
I tried some unusually high AVCHD settings, around 80Mbps, just for fun and i got the worst image quality. Maybe this is the same as what you're describing?
 
Quick question. I'm going to do my first hack. Is it safe to use the firmware currently on Panasonics site as linked? Did they "poison" it? If not, can I get a safe unhacked 1.32 firmware from someone.

From their site they show it as:

If you are looking for the version for ptool to load, it should be safe because ptool appears to check that the file is the correct version before it will actually enable change options.

This does not necessarily mean I'd flash my GH1 with the Pana file as the first step ;-)

Hello. I´m trying to save firmware but i can´t.

I´m using original Gh1_132 firmware, and PTtool V 3.50d with L Powell settings.

Computer message´s is "wrong file name, the camera won´t recognize..". I´m trying to save as GH1_133 and on, but is impossible. What am I doing wrong?? I´ve tried all possible options with both version increment / prevent version. but it´s impossible. message still again and again.

I hacked camera two months ago and any problem. That´s my second attempt.

It's been awhile since I've change the settings on my GF1. Last night when I saw that the new update hack was out I tried some different settings and could not update. It kept telling me to turn off the the camera and back on. Very frustrated, can anyone help. Thanks

It's subjective. Some love not having to deal with pulldown, while others hate not being able to view videos in camera. I myself love just being able to pop my video on a time line and be able to edit without any intermediate steps.

I had heard only about the GH1 outputting MJPEG or AVCHD. Are you saying the camera can create .mov files. I agree that being able to drop these files directly on a time line is a good thing. If you can do .mov with the GH1 are you still talking about using a hack to get the quality up to full HD?
 
As someone who is both older and not great with computers, I will want the joy of using a GH1 to capture its best possible HD footage. What I am wondering is this: if people are able to share their favorite settings, isn't there some way to skip programming by me? Can't I download some combination from the net onto an SD card, insert the SD card, and use someone else's settings without going into all the programming? It would be so helpful. I want to say for someone like me, the "step by step" instructions are really not step by step enough. And I hate to have you say "well then you shouldn't be trying to have the hack." Any ideas?
 
This is my first question so if I am in the wrong area I apologise. I cant seem to get anymore then 31mbits/second (Quicktime Movie Inspector) out of my GH13. I have been trying the 720/30 80 Mpeg patch and others which allow high bit rates. I have a Sandisk Extreme 30 MB/s 8GB Class 10. I suspect I am answering my own question but if the card slowing me down... why.....I was under the impression that any Class 10 card should allow very high bit rates. Any help would be appreciated.

Wonder if anyone can help. I just today got a Japanese GH1 with an FS9L serial number. It had Japanese as the only language option. I loaded ptool with GH1__132 and changed only the language option - I changed no other settings. I incremented the file name (GH1__133.), loaded it to the root directory of the SD card, into camera, hit play, and the camera took about 1 min to update the firmware. I now have English! The camera works great! Yeah!

Now, however, I can not get the hack to load. Using lpowell's high reliability "J" file settings with both "Version increment" and "Prevent version compare" checked and the file named GH1__133 or GH1__134 does not work. I get the message "no valid picture to play" rather than a firmware update option. Any ideas?

I've picked up a used GH1 in b&h with firmware 1.32 and have been hacking it.
I've read all the guides telling me how to do, and it works. BUT the filesize of the MTS-files does not increase, they are all around 2,5 MB/s which corresponds (as far as I know) to approx. 2.5*8=20Mbit/s

Even though my hack settings should use 40Mbit/s ?? I've been filming in outdoor with lots of details.
Is there any way to check whether the files are the original or the hacked quality?

Somone correct me if i'm wrong.....: As i understand the file size shouldn't change as its the codec that's now recording at 40mbps or whatever.

Nevermind. It was a version increment issue. I thrashed around and incremented the version by 3 and all is well.

Try to shoot in MJPEG mode. Then u will be able to see if your hack is working.

Check 24 fpp native
Overall = 120,000,000 (the Max we can set, it goes with class 10 card)
FHD= 51 then 53 (both looking good, over 53 will turn the rate back to lower rate)
GOP=6 then 4 (default 12 is not as stable as 6, 4 seems more stable than 6)

shot PAPPASART's motion chart more than 60 sec a few times with GOP=4 without problem (produced rate at 46-47)

just let you know put you guys's talent together , it has produced a test result that has never been so good before.

Newbie here but got lucky w/ my Japanese GH1 (manufactured 2010 January) with settings I found on another thread before but can't find it anymore. Is there a good, central resource that document all the settings - with people voting on how reliable their cameras are on those settings? (That would be a great resource!)

Meanwhile, I found the above post which seems to have a pretty good, stable setting. And also of course, the for dummies guide - http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?215526-GH1-and-GF1-firmware-hack-for-dummies
