Thanks for the answer, I also took the time to go on their website and they do say 444 12-bit and 444 10-bit.

I don't doubt that 10-bit is a little more resistant to banding of gradients, but it really only is 4 times the amount of data quantization over 8-bit so I don't see it being a "vast" difference as say 12-bit over 8-bit which would be 16 times the amount of data.
Plus when its moving at 24 to 60 times per second some artifacts I see on a still frame of footage gets impossible to see when its moving. Anyway it's true it will depend on what you're shooting i.e.. flat surfaces, walls, sky, etc..
I'm looking forward to playing with it.
Thanks Bill, I am learning a lot myself in the last year. DVX is a great forum with great people and has been an invaluable resource for me to conduct my own research as well as validate some of my findings with others. I admit I enjoy the techie side as much as the creative.
Speaking of DSLR's I wanted to reply to Tomas's last post. A lot of the 8-bit footage from my F3 screened at film festivals last year in theatres on very large screens. Amongst it were other projects shot on 5D, 7D and even 35mm film and I have to say that despite the vast majority of it originating in an 8-bit format the quality was very high and many pieces had a great "film look" to them. To be honest for me this was actually somewhat disheartening because I spent a small fortune on the F3 and here were rival cameras holding up to the big screen for mere fractions of the price!
On paper more is always better, but in real world there are differences that can sometimes make all things equal.
Yes Tata, after buying RED, selling it, putting F3 for sale and declining two offers, getting ready to buy F5/F55, yadda yadda yadda, I may have finaly came to same conclusion to ride it out with F3. So far I am producing images with it that are satisfying.

...and that is why I am sticking with F3 for while longer, and not drooling over F5/55, Dragon or what ever... Actually kinda enjoying the "ride" on getting extremely expensive add ons for a great price from people who "dropped" their F3s...
