Playing with the Canon XC10

Some frames from a Dynamic Range Test against the 5Dmkii shooting Raw and the Blackmagic 4K also in Raw.
Same aperture and same luma correction, no other corrections done.
It's during sun set so pretty dark and exposed so there is no clipping in the clouds.

5D

BMPC4K

XC10

Also here is a XC10 frame in one of the standard picture settings during sundown. No corrections done.

Quick run through of all the picture profiles in the Canon XC10 and also a DR shootout against a 5Dii with ML Raw and the BMPC4K.
IMO the DR looks good, so does the C-Log, very flexible.

DR Shootout:
All three ETTR, adjusted lift and gain with Waveform. Gamma got an equal lift on all three.

PPs Set One:
All ETTR, adjusted lift, gamma and gain. No other corrections accept some saturation to the C-Log.

PPs Set Two:
All ETTR, touched nothing in post.

So it looks like the XC10 is an outstanding camera for every type of video purpose except for narrative.
That's a VERY wide range of applications.

The DR seem in C-LOG seems to beat both the 5D in RAW and the BMPC 4K in RAW also. Yes? (I'm watching on a tiny little screen right now.)

Now this is how a feature showing the IQ of a camera should look like:

This camera looks really promising and much better than the DVX200 failure.

I think the video looks great, but the people who filmed it have lots of experience and normally work with higher-end cameras.

I think the short is too engaging and interesting to really analyze the camera. But with that said, I did order the XC10 earlier today.

Yup that was one of the videos that made me decide.
Give me the cash and crew and most importantly the time and I make one just like it :)

The dvx200 looks like a win to me. Just like this camera, the C100, C300 etc, when all the Internet is bashing... It's probably great.
When everyone raved about the A7rii I felt skepsis, and glad I did ;)

I could see some use in narrative as well but it would never be A-cam.
So I totally agree, sports, documentary, family, travel, news, porn, what have you.. Perfect... Until NAB.

Grabbed some quick shots today with the Rode Stereo Videomic X. Its a really nice mic.
Just wished I had more time to shoot but I wont untill September other than stuff like this.

No time for grading either, just drag n drop Osiris Luts.

Ive just looked at some of yesterdays shoots from after sundown and started playing a little in Resolve.
I like what I see so far. Im installing the Beta of R Studio so it might be a while until I have some video to post.

Can report that the fellow on eBay selling the 64gb Lexar Cfast 2.0 for less than a 32gb costs in Sweden is legit.

It's obviously some sort of Grey import since it shows up with a sticker in moon language and no warranty.
It was professionally packaged in anti static bags but not in an official Lexar box.

No customs or import tax within the EU.
Tried it at 305mbps for a couple of minutes without hiccups.

It really is good for run n gun out and about, but also indoors for youtubers doing reviews and such. Very fast workflow.
Did a mistake in this so first third of the video is ISO 3200.

Like the Sony x70 I heard there were issues with certain codecs that did not import into FCX and other NLE's
