Philip Bloom's first test

Send up is the right term. This footage doesn't come anywhere close to the MX-clip for DR.

Did you somehow expect it to be? You are comparing $5k of gear to around $35k worth of gear (that's without mentioning the cost of lenses used on each).

Now compare some of the shots in the car video to early R1 footage and things start to look a little closer in terms of DR. Interesting times.

The MX sensor upgrade, by itself, costs more than a complete AF100 kit. If it didn't substantially outperform the AF100, that would be embarrassing.

indeed let's hope final DR is better than this lousy display. a tiny match blew out his face like there was an 18k hmi horseblasting him from 3 feet away

TODAY IS THE DAY that Philip does the real tests on the AF100.

THIS is the day I have been waiting for. This will tell me how much of a fan I should be of this camera. The car video moire around :21 and 1:38 reminded me of exactly why I don't trust DSLRs. I thought I saw some on the AF100, but when I picked out individual frames I didn't see it.

I can't wait to see the results! We'll see how well they utilized that big sensor to make those 1080p pictures.

Do remember he's not working with a final production model until he goes and tests in japan in the coming months. This is still one of the preproduction demo units. All the things this cam can do may not be implemented perfectly in this model.

But I am stoked too! P Bloom is the man for giving it to you straight about cams. Can't wait to hear his conclusions, and see his footage!

That RED MX test wasn't done by single footcandle. There is obviously something else going on in the background. These comparisons are silly, but I guess everyone is going to think you're throwing down the guantlet every time you strike a match from now on.

Lol. QFT

mr bloom, are you in the US or England? Cause if it's the latter, then isn't it close to 6pm your time? I.e. where are the tests? :) lol

I am very curious too but give him a bit of time.

I think he is in the UK so it will be here soon enough.

:)

"Ok managed to get some nasty skewing with wider lens closer up to object. Better but not perfect"

That's a little worrysome.

But that doesn't make sense?

How can there be more skew with a wide lens with objects close up, while a longer lens exhibits less skew? That's just backwards....
