Abs

Diet; 6 meals a day ...

Your abs may have mad muscle and you may not see it ! I've been slacking since Thursday ...

That's right, John. Tom Venuto says if you wanna see your abs, you need to get your body fat down to the 6% range. You can crunch 'em all day and night, but unless you eat right you'll never see them.

It isn't about exercise alone...

My problem with working out is that I'm the opposite of most - I'm underweight and attempting to gain weight. So I have to change all the workouts I read about.

Anyone have any Abs routine that'll actually work? I've been running the same one for months now and I'm just staying stagnant.

My problem with working out is that I'm the opposite of most - I'm underweight and attempting to gain weight. So I have to change all the workouts I read about.

Gaining weight isn't hard if you're willing to do the research, spend a little money on the right food/supplements and work out 3-5 hours a week.

I was underweight too, but I've gained 10lb of pure muscle in 2 months....working out at home. All while consuming what is undoubtedly the healthiest food I've ever eaten.

I do a full body alternative hypertrophy training program 3 days a week.

I eat right...and I eat a lot. You can't gain weight if you burn more calories than you consume. Lots of raw vegetables. 3-4 (delicious!) shakes a day made from high quality whey protein, maltodextrin, fruit, berries etc. I make sure to get plenty of healthy fats (omega 3-6-9 mix, almonds, coconut oil, olive oil etc).

I make sure to get my rest. I've cut cardio workout to about 3 x 15 min. a week. Don't want to burn too many cals and the body needs rest to grow.

When progress is this good motivation is not a problem. Actually, keeping still on rest-days is harder :)

Somethings that I take into consideration are what my goals are.

I can't set goals based on weighing a certain amount, or losing x many pounds.

Instead I have to set goals such as, be able to do 20 deadhang pull ups, or run a mile under 6 minutes (I can't do either yet).

In the past I tried saying, I'm going to lose this many pounds, but it would never happen...I guess I'm just not motivated to see a number on a scale. So maybe there's some other people like me (that need to set action based goals rather than weight based goals).

just a thought.

Anyone who hasnt sat down and read the entire Scooby's website needs too. Lots of great information there. I'm currently doing some of the lightweight strength training stuff there and lots of cardio trying to build some stamina and get back into shape. Right now I have goals like chasing the dogs without having to stop and catch my breath every two minutes.

New cardio workout in addition to the elliptical - nintendo wii. Wife got it for us for our anniversary. Now thats fun. The fitness stuff that came with it is alot of fun and gives you a decent workout. The tennis is probably my favorite. Ok building my mii was my favorite but tennis rocks. There's lots of cool training stuff built in to help you track your improvements too. It'll be a fun addition to my "real" workout routine. Also got guitar hero 3 and this ww2 fighter plane game. Both also are fun as heck, but not as much of a workout.

Yeah I find I'd rather have goals that allow me to do things. This "lose 15 pounds" or "3 inches off my waist" thing just doesnt matter to me. Little goals like chasing the dogs or filming all day long without being dog tired actually give me some motivation.

Happy monday dudes!

my crossfit workout of the day was:

500m Row
25 thrusters @ 65 lbs
15 pull ups
400m Run
25 Sumo dead lift high pulls @ 65 lbs
15 Dumbbell swings @ 40 lbs

For Time! I got 9:58

I have to stress the importance of proper hydration, I didn't drink enough water yesterday and I felt completely dehydrated this morning. Lucky for me, at my day job we are sponsored by Glaceau (the makers of Smart Water, Vitamin Water). Smart water is so great! It's vapor distilled and contains electrolytes.

Tuesday's workout:

:20 minutes for max amount of rounds

5 snatches ( I used a 30 lb bar - these are tough!)
9 pull ups
9 dips

I got 7 rounds in. The gym record for the day so far is 14 rounds!
needless to say it's very hard to type this right now.

My last gnarly workout was Thursday night; the usual beatdown; great workout

I did play tennis yesterday for 2 hours and engaged in some other caloric burning activity though. (Sigh)

You want periodical... Here's my stinking update.

For me I have become a work out addict. I love doing my cardio and working up a good solid sweat. I have been going to the gym every day at lunch and then work out at home at least other day during the week (normally on the weekends) essentially giving me 5-6 days of workouts a week. At four solid weeks of going so far.

My routine is:
Monday - 40 minutes cardio on interval training, abs (sit-ups)
Tuesday - 15 minutes cardio on medium resistance at full sprint, chest & arm weight training
Wednesday - 40 minutes cardio (different type) on interval training, abs
Thursday - 15 minutes cardio on medium resistance at full sprint, leg weight training
Friday - 45 minutes cardio (normally back to the elliptical) a full circuit of 3 sets of 10-15 of heavier weights of weight training... this is my 2 hour gym session (my work day ends early on Fridays).

For me, my heaviest weight was 265... Since December when I got engaged I'm down 50lbs (I do a low carb program) toning up quickly and just enjoying life more.

At least she said yes to the engagement when I was at my heaviest... it's a nice insurance policy to have :)

pretty soon we'll have to post some before and after pics!

The last time I had a picture taken of me with my shirt off was in late January, but I don't think I look a whole lot different. I've certainly come a long way since last year though!

Well, I train because I was so skinny. I am still slim, but well trained. I want to put on a few more pounds of muscles, but not that much.

Left side when I was about 19 I think, right side is probably when I was 21 and now I am 23.

today we did:

5 rounds
Bench press / pull ups
max reps - not timed (thank god)

135 lbs
18 reps, 8 pull ups

155 lbs
12 reps, 6 pull ups
8 ", 8 "
6 ", 6 "
6 ", 6 "

Simon, you are a slim dude! I was always envious of guys like you, although it's harder for you guys to build muscle and keep it. For me, I have all the muscle I need, it's just the fat that won't go away :)

Today I think I tweaked my back...ouccchhh:cry: My form on the deadlifts became questionable towards the end as I was fatigued. For this we did 21 deadlifts, then 21 HSPU's, then 15 deadlifts 15 HSPU's, and finally 9 of each. (for time of course) I took many breaks in between, but still got under 10 minutes, which was my goal.

21 - 15 - 9

Deadlifts @ 185 lbs
Hand Stand Push Ups (used a bar for assistance)

9:31
