Periodical Workout Thread ...

That time of the year where I want to look good in a bikini.

I hit a 9 Minute Mile yesterday; 1.78 Total in Interval running ...

Not at all looking forward to running today; and the upper body beatdown. I have to run around 3:00 PM; dreading it.

-

At 9 Minutes I was only reaching approx. 70 % Maximum Heart Rate. Damn, can't I just play basketball and call it a day ?

-

Who's on/been on the train lately ? That Mantini is gonna look good this year

I've been hitting the gym again - actually heading there in a few minutes. I went two days ago and I forgot what horrible shape I'm in. I think this is the first time in years, I've been in this bad shape.

I'm going hardcore back to training. My problem is drinking and eating junk foods I think. I've done this before, so I'm not totally lost...I just have to start getting back into my routine.

Good luck John!

I worked out all last (school) year and felt great. I was going to start up again this year but the gym that sits about 100ft from my house closed down for renovations. There is another one about a half mile from here that I would go to, but it's populated by the more-muscle-then-brain jocks of VCU, and frankly, I hate going there.

Push-ups and sit-ups in my room for now.

The drinking thing gets me too;

RED RED WIIIIIINE !!!!

I'm on a weekend only drink plan now. Too many calories.

I'm not too much a junk food dog.

I've been inspired by your fitness threads before, but life got in the way (I know, lame excuse) ... but I've lately been really getting my mind around the idea of getting back into shape (other than round  ). I am in the worst shape of my life, so I know I gotta do something soon. Thanks for the reminder John ... I'm gonna do it this time. :)

BTW - I see your location "West Bound and Down" ... you heading back to S.D.? Moving back? Just a visit?

I've been doing lots of push ups, curls, and some ab exercises. I'm trying to eat better food several times a day in an effort to increase my metabolism.

I'm learning a lot as I read Burn the Fat. Thanks, John!

Alcohol is supposed to be the most difficult fat to get out of your system...which is a sin, because while bears eat to store fat for the winter I drink. I've bought some free weights and I'm pretty disciplined during the summer...but the cold brutal winter just doesn't help...it's that time of the year when you develop that small "mono-abdominal". Spring is coming to Barcelona though and pretty soon I'll be able to do one of the things I love the most...swimming in the calm and warm Mediterranean sea...Ok, I just re-read what I said and the only way I could have made this sound more gay was if I said "swimming in the calm and warm Mediterranean sea and listening to Kenny G".

Boy is this thread perfect for me. I can't seem to get the motivation at all to maintain a consistent routine worth mentioning. I'll work out hardcore for 3 weeks and that will be that for months at a time.

My last step into the gym was the last week of November I believe. 3 months ago! Egad!!!

4 or 5 years ago I had to get into shape for something I was doing and almost achieved that elusive ab look. No consistent exercise, poor diet and 5 years later and I feel like a pile of sh*t.

Okay, enough with the vent....its time to get back in the gym 4-6 times a week, cardio, weight training and 5 small healthy meals a day! I've got to lose some pounds before I am synonymous with the words "back fat."

PS Yes, my Achilles heal is beer. I love the stuff. And like you John I've shifted my gears and have cut back to only weekends. However, I can drink too much of the crap. So, in order to have any hope of getting into shape by the summer I have to cut it out entirely and become militant. Ugh.

I've actually been doing a lot of bicycling. It beats running for me and the winter cold air feels good on your face.

Yea, I loathe running, always have. But I absolutely love to hop on a bike and ride hard for a couple hours straight. I average speed (before I got out of shape) was 18 - 20 MPH ... that's without exerting any effort. To work out I would kick it up to 35-40 MPH, which was always fun when cruising through residential areas and I was zipping along faster than the cars (even got pulled over once, but the cop was cool and let me go with a warning :) )

I know it's been mentioned before, but Burn the Fat* is packed with great info and doesn't try to sell you supplements, etc. It busts some myths and does a good job of explaining the why's and how's.

Have been working out consistently since early December 07. Have had a gym membership for the past 4 years, but it always an on and off thing. Pretty sure this one will stick around for a bit longer, especially since I've set myself some realistic "goals". Oh, and having nike +, ipod, plus a palm pilot with an excel sheet with data is motivation too..:D

No excuses needed; life gets in my way every film festival (goes into fetal position)

Going back home ! Yay !

Alcohol is not a fat, but it must be detoxified as quickly as possible by your liver. As far as your body is concerned, it is a poison. It is in fact, the first thing your body will process.

The oxidation of the alcohol takes top priority over the oxidation of other nutrients which in turn, suppresses the utilization of fats, carbohydrates, and protein.

And where do they go ? Usually in your ass. :undecided

I should use this as a springboard for my health.
I really don't have time to hit the gym... I have a young daughter, a full time job, and my wife works shift work.

BUT!

I do have a pretty good exercise bike upstairs in our bedroom. I should make a point to get on the bike 3 or 4 times a week.
Maybe after putting my daughter to bed. I really used to be in good shape back in the day.

I have to cut back on pop drinks as well. I just can't stand the taste of diet drinks. :D

My goal will be to start this new trend tonight!

Thanks for the boost!

Mike

If you're looking for something to replace sodas and you don't want to drink water 24/7, try Crystal Light. They have several flavors and they don't taste like diet drinks.

Their "on the go" packets are great for travelling.

Hmmm, I for the most part know what I am doing with respect to exercising and eating right. However, I don't have it down to an exact science and might need some help. This is the first time in my life I have to work out to not only build lean muscle mass but to lose pounds. In my 20's, it was all about getting stronger and building muscle. Right now, I've got 20-30 pounds around my mid-section I am just sick of looking at. I want to be trim and fit again and realized from my results the last few times that I might need it laid out for me.

I was burning a TON of calories and eating only good stuff but was losing VERY slowly. Sometimes it would be like a pound or so every week or two...I think my problem was I wasn't eating enough calories and also I wasn't consistent with eating 5 times a day. I would eat a small breakfast, get busy, then eat dinner. No good. I couldn't lose anything it was like my body was shutting down.

I guess to wrap up this longwinded question...does Burn The Fat offer some concrete examples of foods to eat and the number of calories I should be consuming on a daily basis? I need to kick-start something soon while there is still time to be able to take my shirt off on the beach for Chirstmas sakes...

Well, I am in really good shape right now. Working out for the last 4 years quite regulary. Just a few breaks in between. I was really skinny, but gained alot of muscles. Still slim, but well trained.

Recently I started running again, which makes me feel even better. I really need to improve my condition.

And I do tricking once a week. Stuff like sommersaults, backflips, handsprings etc.

My nutrition is quite good and I nearly drink no alcohol. Sport is a quite big part of my life and I think it is quite a good balance to the other part: sitting in my room, reading dvxuser and studying for university.

Keep it up fellas, it's good for you! Makes you feel better :) And try to find a trainingspartner, that's such a big motivation!

From what I understand, it does have aneglible amount of salt and calories ? Neglible of course; but, any and all count. So, if you;re drinking a gallon a day it'll add up!
