GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

Thanks Joe, I will take a look into this as well. I might have overlooked it, but how is the option $100? It has quite a bit of connections I won't need and features, mainly need zoom. Peaking could be nice if it's better than the peaking provided by the GH5, seems others aren't happy with the previous peaking of the GH4.

I suppose there may be significant sample-to-sample variation among GH4's, but count me as a happy "peaker". Some may not be aware of its totally counter-intuitive peaking setup, where the "high" detect level gives the lowest screen response, and "low" the highest. Colors matter too, with low/blue giving me the best response in low contrast lighting or softer lenses (as in my ancient Nikkor fast primes); and high/yellow with sharper lenses as my 12-35/2.8, or contrasty conditions.

Here's a link to a short 4K demo I put together shot in flat early morning light, a bit of mist, at rather extreme EFL's: Canon 400mm/5.6 with the M-B Smart T adapter, including a 2X dig. zoom clip where peaking still functions (but not with the mag. focus box). I found MF/peaking mode the easiest to work with, as MF assist/peaking in AF-S mode not operative with the adapted lens, tho it's AF-S is very accurate. Peaking set low/blue, particularly helpful with the much closer Saurus cranes moving about in the last clip:

A little birdie who works at an anonymous retailer told me their first shipment will be 400 units - all taken as pre-orders. There is still no confirmed arrival date. BTW those who did trade-ins on their pre-order go to the front of the line. Also i have looked in the gh5 viewfinder and it looked easier to see focus than the gh4.

The GH5 OLED viewfinder has 3686k dots according to the specs. For comparison, the GH4 viewfinder had 2359k dots, so that is a decent bump in resolution.

The GH5 LCD screen has 1620k dots, while the GH4 LCD had 1036k dots (again about a 50% increase). The LCD screen is a 3:2 aspect ratio so I think that means the resolution of the LCD screen is about 900 x 600 pixels (x 3 dots/pixel). In 16:9 aspect ratio, the tops and the bottom of the screen are cropped though, resulting in an effective resolution of about 900 x 506. Which may explain why it can be sometimes difficult to judge focus based on the LCD screen alone.

Can you clarify this? So setting to "low" makes the camera pickier about what is in focus?

Oh i see, so low is good for low contrast lenses or scenes, but could cause you to get less specific focus on sharper lenses or more contrasty scenes?

No. The edge contrast definition is significantly more enhanced in 'low", with a somewhat broader depth of focus. Go figure! I believe that something must have been lost in the Peaking setup menu's Japanese to English translation regarding the "Detect Level".

Conversely, High level is more picky, thus more accurate - but only if you can see it.

He's a Panny "ambassador". Or whatever term is being used by the early testers.

I posted it on the Industry News page. I don't think it has been posted here (or anywhere else)

We’ve seen lots of highly produced beautiful shot videos with the New GH5, but when your young and the creative juices start to flow, check this “Slacklineing” video out.

Anyone know if Panasonic USA is doing the 5 year warranty promo for preorders. I searched for it and can't find anything specific to the US marketed cams...
Promotions are a financial consideration that becomes important when there's insufficient demand for a particular product. And considering that GH5 has an excess of demand - presumably, beyond Panasonic's production capabilities in the short run - there's no reason whatsoever for Panasonic to offer any deals. In fact, when the GH5 price was discussed months ago, I doubted that it would be above $1,800. Well, Panasonic was right and I was wrong. Even at $2,000, they're selling like hotcakes.

Pani is offering the warranty promo in the UK. So by your reasoning there's little demand in the UK. I actually rather doubt that.
