GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

Anybody else seen this? http://www.ibtimes.co.in/panasonic-imaging-head-says-gh4s-replacement-may-shoot-4k-120-fps-685337 Sounds too good to be true imo, I'd settle for internal 4k50P with no crop, it's not like those specs couldn't fit in a camera the size of the gh4, the only reason this doesn't exist yet is because of market segmentation... Let's hope Pany wakes up and realizes this would be the very first camera in this size/weight range to do that...

I don't think that Panasonic will do the same mistakes as Nikon and Canon did. Their "4k features" are more or less a point on their advertising feature list without reallife relevence. Here Sony and Panasonic are the low end 4k game changers. Therefor I expect some real nice specs from the GH5.

I never get the point of these rumor posts. They are usually posted by people completely out of the know who are guessing, and they have a 50/50 chance.

Some sites have insider connections and the rumors are rated on how likely they will hold water. While not everything they post comes true, a fair bit of it does so I don't write them off completely, but I do take everything they post with a massive grain of salt... :-)

IMO, it's also likely that some companies use them for their own purposes. Some models are just about to be released for the second consecutive year. Until they get "canceled". Others come out of seemingly nowhere.

Insofar ar the MFT Rumor goes, he had his GH4 specs about nine months ahead of time and the only spec he missed was the 200 Mbps recording bit rate. He assumed it was for 4K too. But that A99II/A9 rumor has been there (the sister site) for two years. Nothing's doing.

If a rumor-site posts a rumor then what they post is very probably a rumor. Usually they are not too far off and probably they get fed at times by companies for a very easy to understand reason: "Don't run away too fast to another product, we have something in store for you .... sooner. Or later. Or a bit different."

Raising the expectation level. Drum roll far away. It's coming and it will be .... Whatever. ;-)

Rumor Rumor quite the Tumor

We'll for sure see hopefully soon.

The only real 'needs' i would put on it are the no 4k crop, and a usable iso3200. Usable being quite subjective, but to give a comparison: i would like to see the GH5's iso3200 be in the ballpark of the C100's 3200-6400. They could make those two changes alone and i would be satisfied (i know, it's forum etiquette to demand the moon from manufacturers)

everything else would be icing for me. IBIS would be a joy, and would seem only logical given it's implementation in lower panny cams. IBIS for many folks isn't just a bonus, but rather a necessity to open to the door to all non-panny m43 lenses, such as olympus, which has all non-stabilized lenses.

The A6300 was going to be the camera for me, but the overheating and rolling shutter have kept me away.

I sold my gh4 a short bit back, and have been putting my gh3 to good use since. I'm used to both manufacturers, and both have been so close to hitting the nail on the head for my particular needs. GH5 is next up to either please, or pass.

More pixels (visavis GH4) and a one stop ISO improvement imply the BSI is in use.

The next question is the dual readout that will enable a superior dynamic range vs. GH4.

IBIS is probably not doable with all the work the processor has to do with 6K-to-4K conversion. It's the same as with A6300, though hopefully without the overheating issues.

Which I still don't understand...

And.....I REALLY, REALLY (REALLY) hope they solve the HDMI lag issues to external monitors....and have a more robust mini HDMI or full HDMI output on the body.

Have you ever see that in use? It's horrible, looking like warp-stabilized cell phone footage.

Panny added IBIS to the GX80, and it's useless.

OIS is the only acceptable way to go. It's the lens makers we need to be after on this one, not the camera makers.

Au contraire my friend, IBIS in the GX85 is quite amazing. Unless of course you swing the camera around your head by the camera strap.

Have you used it?

The rule of thumb in the photo-video world - if something in the product looks hideously crippled and not dependent on hardware but software, then it's 99% due to the cozy relationship between Japanese manufacturers.

GH4 possibly had a different explanation, as it had the 4K SDI out via that extra attachment (YAGH) to an SDI enabled recorder like AJA Ki Pro Quad or 4K HDMI out to Q7+, Shogun, PIX-E5, etc. In other words, they wanted to sell more pricey YAGH devices. That YAGH thing didn't work out too well. But GH4 itself was a mega hit.

DLD, I don't doubt there were strange motives or alliances...or yet another casualty from the ill-fated Gagh! But..I was amazed how few seemed to point out that weirdness.

They had a chance to take care of the latency issues with the DVX200 and didn't. I would wager they will still be there in the GH5 sad to say.

Despite lots of denials, I've always wondered how much GH4 tech was used to create the DVX200, because many things are similar between these two cameras.

Given the additional processing power the GH5 has Panasonic might have eliminated the lag issue.
