Funny isnt it? I was hoping the af100 would at least match resolution to the gh2 but have less aliasing. Confirms my suspicions though.

This doesn't surprise me a bit. I've shot with both cameras, and my impression all along has been that the AF100 has typical resolution for a single chip 24P camera, whereas the GH2 has extraordinary resolution, much closer, if not identical to what you'd get with a good 3 chip camera.

The stronger optical low pass filter on the AF100 is undoubtedly the culprit. It's robbing the camera of resolution, and now we have proof.

On the flip side, the GH2 has some chroma issues which are probably the result of it's weaker OPLF. But since the human eye is more sensitive to luminance than chrominance, the overall effect favors the GH2.

In an ideal world, it would be great if digital cameras had two OPLF's which the user could select from.

But I doubt that's going to happen, so I hope camera manufactures take this as a stimulus to rethink their formulas for optical low pass filters, using the GH2 as an example of what can be achieved.

Any chance a rethink by Zacuto? ps its not a G2 its a GH2.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Wouldn't a stronger OPLF equal less moire?

I guess you could say there are two types or sources of moire. The first is a chroma moire that arises directly from the Bayer sensor. But, what you're seeing in the picture is a luminance moire that results from the camera reaching it's limit of resolution on a test chart.

I was straggling between 3 gh2s and 1 af100 but now I am set.
3 gh2s are what I am getting.
Tracking shows delivery on Monday. (:

looking at other cameras chart, af100 does pretty well.
gh2 bests all of them.

Im getting a gh2 in the future :)

and this doesnt kill my af100. i still love it. it has everything i need. (except for some few minor flaws)

hazna, please let us know how your gh2 cameras are. As well as the gh2 does, there are complaints of banding and strobe effect in them.

Gh2 less aliasing....AF-100 "clean" hdmi out, messing aro und people...
Apparently with the right script in AVSynth you can also get this on the GH-2 (it's not perfect but it's definitely an option). And, if you see some of the comparisons, as sharp as the AVCHD on the GH-2 is....the HDMI is even sharper (yes...including the low light areas).

The performance of the AF-100 is very dependent on the lens used and the camera settings, so without seeing a full breakdown on the lens and the setting used during shooting, I won't trust the results of this test.

this is Fact - the low-pass-filter (AF100) is the problem . . .

This is an interesting discussion, I will await Barry's review and test analysis before coming to any conclusions.

Well... isn't that all the reason why the GH-1 was condemned, because of the lighter filtration it gave rise to 'jaggies'... so now they made the low pass filter lower/sharper, and now the
complaint is 'softness'... which is exactly what a low pass filter does...

I wonder if they are doing a DSP low pass in the GH-2, and so can tune the parameters slightly better... pure conjecture of course...

well gad damn... My af100 test chart looks pretty much the same as the german shoot. I'm pretty annoyed to say the least.

and vitaliy have a problem: low-pass-filter (Nyquist und Shannon Theorem) - the hack can not solve this problem

I buy the GH2 and not the AF 100
