Actually it's great info: he just confirmed it's not a film camera!!!

(no info at all right now is just teasing and I don't like it; wake me up if this thing has the same DR as the Varicam)

I wonder if this new camera has a good AF system, considering all the problems GH5 has. We must wait till the end of May to know more.

When Panasonic finally get this one of out of their butt something more exciting is already on the horizon. As always. That's why it's better to built a short hype and sell it like hell until something else distracts.

My Speculation: .........

It will not feature an M43 sensor or MFT mount, if nothing else only because of the nature of the industry and competition/perception.
Red Raven has a small ~ MFT sized sensor. It's good enough for pro work. Heck, GH5 (Sony IMX 270 tweaked) is good enough. As is Olympus OMD EM1 MKII (the same IMX 270, tweaked).

As I had said in the Varicam Mini thread, a camera based on GH5 would mean a lot of shared components and a very low development cost. It may then add the "pro" features in terms of the body, the codec, audio/video connections and outputs, etc.

And swappable mounts are all the rage now anyway.

I wont mind the same sensor as the varicam without the dual iso. 800 only is cool or 5000 with negative gain. Lol.
Interchangeable mount i hope!!

My feeling is the opposite.. M43 Gh5_XLR. Can a 'pro' product use SD cards?

Clearly there would seem to be two or three strategies..

1) Give sony a whipping with a $5k FS5 sized 'varicam' that outperforms the FS7 in every way.
2) Protect the Vari ' name and LT sales with a GH5_XLR
3) Make an intelligent radical camera that occupies a unique hole in the market MFT_Ultralight_Varicam.. the professional documentarians dream camera.

One may note that MGs tweets seem to include PannyProAV and not Varicam twitter handles.

But is a GH5 + XLR worth $5,000 - $6,000? Seems like a $3,999 product imho. The small form factor of a GH5 and its XLR is a benefit in some cases and that only costs $2,500. I would lean towards Filmguy,s approach. If you want to compete with the Fs5 then at least match its specs.

There has been a hole in the Panasonic lineup for years so hopefully this camera will fill that need. It's definitely not for an M43 handheld GH5 with XLRs but only the Mitch knows what it actually is. I doubt if Panasonic will ever make a FF camera unless it is a super high end $100k camera made to compete with the likes of the Arri 65 or Red Whatever Crazy Insanity sensor size and raster size the future holds. That leaves S35, they need that to be the Varicam Mini, if that's what this is.

Isn't it nice to have an identifiable Panny insider here at dvxuser again? ;)
I mean..he's toying with us now, understandably.
But I hope this is at least a step towards an environment here like when Jan was present.
Ok..carry on.
It has a sensor? Cool! ;)

It's going to be bigger than M3/4 sensor. I mean, I would love an "AF200"-ish camera with an M3/4 sensor. But with both the GH5 and DVX200 on the market, an "AF200"-ish camera with an M4/3 is going to cut into the already small market for M4/3 cameras... or more realistically have it's own share cut by existing cameras. I mean, the GH5 and DVX200 are all aimed at distinct markets, but there's enough overlap that a lot of folks may forgo an "AF200" for a GH5 plus XLR to cut costs, or DVX200 for convenience of a fixed lens.

And at this point, Panasonic can't afford to launch a hamstrung camera... Sony, Canon, and Blackmagic already have too much market share.

Red Raven sensor size is 23.04 x 10.8 mm (245 mm). GH5 sensor size is 17.3 x 13.00 mm (225 mm).

Red Raven runs $10,000-$12,000 for the full package.

Would anyone be interested in the same type of performance for $6,999?

I have both and while I love the GH5 its not quite on the level as the Raven performance wise. Those extra K's usually matter

Imprecise wording has its costs (as my Brazilian friend says, kkkkkkk).

In any case, I would think that the GH5 performance can be improved, as it is with an addition of an external (high bitrate ProRes) recorder. The next question is whether it hits the sweet spot with its feature set compared to FS-5, C100 MKIII/C200 (if it comes out on the similar fall schedule), BMD URSA Mini Pro, Red Raven and other current and future cameras in its general price range.
