Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

Whats up with the 4K/2K raw not being supported in Adobe products?

I thought this firmware corrected something here.
We addressed our end. It works in Photoshop and some other programs, but not throughout the entire suite of products. That's up to the other side and I'm told will happen soon.

It fixes the white balance issue, so that you can take your footage into Adobe products via ACR properly (no massive green tint). The notes refer to not being able to use DNGs natively on the timeline which is in Adobes ballpark now.

The ACR process is annoying because you set your 'look' for the DNGs and then only get an 8/10bit file out, so you don't get the full range. This is nothing to do with CD, it's Adobes issue.

There is a company that is doing a profile that will turn the ACR output into a log format, that's worth a shot if you need full 4K via Adobe. I think they're called cinelogdcp (from memory)

Otherwise IMHO the best approach is, as with 2K RAW, to transcode 4K RAW to 4K QT files in a log format and use those downstream. But YMMV as they say...

cheers
Paul

Following Mitch's advice on using the power cable to update the firmware, I finally pulled it out of the box (never used it before) plugged it in and no power whatsoever to the 7Q.
Yikes. Battery it is then.

Mitch, I just saw an issue where the screen flipped but was upside down i.e. with SSD'd at top, the image was showing upsdie down. Rotating the screen flipped the image but still upside down.

A reboot has fixed so far.

Have you seen this?

-In extremely rare instance, when recording HD compressed, a file will be corrupted.
-This will be corrected with the next firmware release.

So no paid gigs until next firmware.

Do you know if the file is corrupted while shooting (i.e. a message, or issue with playback from the Playback mode?)

Then again, I've been on studio shoots where a DIT was constantly checking files from a KiPro because they had issues with files being messed up or dropping frames. No equipment is perfect.

That was a bit misleading though - all previous talk said that the issue would be fixed in this update - not that Adobe still has to make a fix too! At least 4k2HD should work though?

Is there a way to view the overlays that are on the FS700 Monitor (Shutter Speed, ISO, etc) on the Odyssey 7Q monitor?

Thanks!

Yes - in FS700 menu - DISPLAY SET - DISPLAY OUTPUT - ALL OUTPUT

But they'll be recorded too of course on the O7Q!

Hate to be a negative nancy, but why does changing modes take 3 minutes now? Kind of a productivity killer. Going to get lots of impatient eye rolls from producers.

Anyone else notice their unit running a lot hotter than before? Maybe it's just the update that heated it up - running at 50 deg C at the moment 24 C ambient

Yeah 3 minutes is a LONG time. Looking like a killer image so far though...

the panning zoom function is very cool.

4K2HD image on the screen is lovely - not tried playing back yet though

The first function I used was the zoom function, the unit flipped out and went to black for 45 seconds.....

so weird to be able to shoot at 4k, punch in with 1:1 zoom and seeing the actual 100% crystal clear image, not a digital zoom in. Very cool. definitely need to check critical focus on every shot for 4k. Looked like i had it in focus, then zoomed in to 1:1 and it was slightly soft. Can't trust your eyes for 4k at all!

35mill, I had a similar issue, zoom in had a crazy vertical stretch and super weird lines streaming off into infinity everywhere. Reboot the 7Q. Fixed it for me.

Anyone else having issues with the 7Q not being able to lock the input signal? I can't see anything in RAW mode and as soon as you try to record it fails and closes out the files...

On a good note normal ProRes seems to work!
