March 29th: First draft of the script complete, and casting calls are out on craigslist and Vancouver Actor's' Guide. Anyone know of any other good spots to post the calls? I know it's a little risky doing this without having seen the rules yet, but I figure my script is solidly "western" enough that barring some major curveball, I should be able to make it fit. I've also got a BTS photog lined up, and a make-up artist/costumer. Next issue to tackle - locations.
April 4th: Script is finalized. Location scouting partly done, found some outdoor locations that are usable but further away than I would prefer. I'll still be looking this week for something closer, and hunting for an interior I can use. Auditions set for the 17th, I've had a surprisingly good response - I'm looking forward to them.
April 17: Auditions today, had a great time. I am really impressed with the calibre of actors that came out. After reviewing the tape I have a pretty good idea who I want - I'll sleep on it, check again tomorrow and start making calls.
Also, we have a composer (Thanks Sompara!), a PA, someone to do the title animations, and by pure random chance a killer sound designer. I'm stoked he wants to help with this. Still looking for an indoor location - have some calls to make on Monday for this. It's starting to stress me out now. I know everyone says it but putting this together is turning out to be way more work than I thought it would be!
April 22: Casting is complete - we have a great set of actors onboard, I am thrilled to be working with these guys. I have a potential lead on an indoor location. I hope this one works out as photography is set for May 1st and 2nd, so we are getting really tight for time. I'll be spending this week working on props and getting the costumes ready.
May 4: Finishing up the props and costumes this week. Locations are set, cast is set, crew is set - OASIS is GO! Principal photography this Saturday. Can't wait to get this going.
May 8: Production complete!
May 11: Screen grabs added, and a long rambling post about production added below.
-That's why names in a logline are rarely helpful. This sounds like something out of the ordinary and may not even have a gun fight. I can't wait to see it. Well I guess I have to anyway.
Ooohhh, me likey! I love stories about the fight for control of natural resources like oil, errrrr, water! Yeah, I meant water! JK, I look forward to it!
dougspice,
john carpenter would, and should, always do his own music. please don't disrespect the man who composed the scores to Halloween, EFNY and The Thing!
In the DV Rebel Guide, Stu says "Learn to Draw Badly." This is my first attempt at a storyboard, I am hoping to improve to 'Bad" over the course of this project.
Script is complete barring tweaks necessary to accomodate cast and locations. Got a surprisingly good response to the casting call, auditions are tentatively set for April 15th. Scouting some locations tomorrow and Saturday.
New (closer) locations found. One thing I learned while doing this is BC has a lot of trees. I mean a LOT of them. It doesn't matter where you are or what way you are looking. If you are outside in BC, you can see trees.
Also, auditions tomorrow. I am very excited to see what comes from that!
