FS7: New Sony PXW-FX9 with venice features and 6k full frame

Or, they are readying the promotional blitz for the CES, which officially starts on Tuesday, the 7th (with the PR events scheduled for Monday, the 6th).

Agreed that this is the best work I've seen from the FX9 thus far. Sony should have hired you to do the promo videos, and there'd be a lot more buzz for this camera!

The stabilization video is incredible as well, that's a true game changer.

hehe thanks, but I'm not an Influencer :)

Has anyone tried to figure out how to get a match in the field (not Post) between FX9 and FS7 yet either in Custom or Cine EI with a custom LUT on the FS7?
That's my first priority when I get mine.

Looks great.
Can anyone explain how a different shutter benefits FX9 stabilization in Catalyst? Curious about that.

A higher shutter decreases motion blur and as a result stabilization appears to work better (via masking some of the jitters while also providing a sharper image).

Pseudoscience? IDK. But perception is what matters.

IMO, 120° is a sweet spot before the change is too apparent for most purposes.

Not to be too negative, but I wouldn't hold your breath. It's been 6 years and there still isn't a standardized way to match an FS7 with an FS5 or A7sII.

Lots of theories and experiments and youtube videos on the subject, but nothing that "just works." The bottom line is that different cameras with different sensors and different color science will never really be a perfect match.

match fx9 and fs7 without post? i woud say burn same lut on slog3 cineEI internally, for fs7 burn lut +1 over expo for fx9 burn same lut but not over exposed.

Fs7 and FX9 are much more similar than Fs7 and FS5 or A7 which use completely different color systems. I easily had perfect matches with EX1/3, F3 and Fs7 but expect it will be a little harder with the Fx9. Hopefully not too bad though.

I wouldn't be too sure .. its a totally new sensor .. nothing like the Fs7.. I'd say its more like the A7 III .. 6K FF backlit Exmor.. no ? ..

no since fs7 and fx9 are slog3 with s-gamut-cine3 same codec, cineEI i will be very very surprised that not match very well. it seems that fx9 have more bandwich in red color.

One of the companies I shoot for has a couple of FX9's on order -- so I'm still waiting to see how they actually match up with their FS7's.
But one of the things I've found in the past has been that different sensors make for matching problems, not necessarily insurmountable but often difficult to deal with during limited set-up time on set. Having similar gamma settings choices is usually helpful, but often the color dye sets/color science/ adjustment settings will vary significantly between cameras (remembering how different the F5 and F55 colors were) - and when you're talking about 'improved color' you are also saying 'new, different color'. Which I why I insisted that they order 2 FX9's -- to make matching cameras that much easier for 2-camera setups. Now I'll just have to worry about what happens when they decide to add the 3rd or 4th camera...

I was able to perfectly match the Ex1, F3 and FS7 with very minor changes to the setup, but going to FS700 or A7 the basic color systems (regardless of the sensors) were so different I could only get close and it took some work. The FX9 and the FS7 have different color response in the sensor so it will be tricky but at least the basic color systems are the same aside form S-cinetone. For Cine Ei I'll try putting s709 LUT in the FS7 and compare to FX9 in super 35 mode. Fortunately the FX9 will have color adjustments possible for small tweaks. In custom I doubt whether the same settings will make a perfect match but hopefully they'll be close. Will no doubt require dumbing down the FX9 to match the FS7.

Sensor is totally different .. even the Venice s709 LUT doesnt work with fx9 Slog3.. too green.. and they are much closer in color and sensor ..than the fx9 and the fs7.. just saying the same gamma doesn't mean they will match without a fight .. look at the f5 to 55..

it is clear that i will prefer work with same camera, i was surprised with little diffrences between FS7I and FS7II (more green) so it clear that it is better to have time for color grading slog3...

Is that general knowledge that the FS7 II is more green than the FS7 I? Haven't heard that before. I think there are often surprising differences even between the same make cameras. Or perhaps you used 2 different lenses?

It could be the case (I have no evidence!) that the different ND systems on the two versions of camera model have a different tint if uncorrected

On that hypothesis the FS72 is more likely to match the Fx9

AC has posted a new set of s709 LUTs for the FX9 which are a Green minus LUT set compared to the original one designed for the Venice sensor. Might be worth a try?

I did one test inside studio to match my Fs7I to an FS7II (and compare af too) with same zeiss batis 85mm without ndfilter and feel FS7II was more green and less magenta. test was 4k DCI cineEI slog3 s-gamut3-cine with same iso and temp kelvin.
Af was same, not better than FS7I.
don't like new e-mount fixation (need two hands to change lense).
like electronic ndfilter.
