In January 2008, Scarlet was announced.
In April 2008, Scarlet mock-ups appeared at NAB. The date "early 2009" was given for delivery.
In September 2008, Canon introduced the 5D2. In response to Canon as well as Nikon, Red scrapped their plans for the 2/3", fixed-lens Scarlet. They threw out the design and went back to the drawing board.
On November 13, 2008, drawings from this drawing board will be presented, laying out the new plan for Scarlet.
And Red says "delivery dates haven't changed much." Prototypes at NAB 2009 and delivery "after that." But everyone who wants a Scarlet will have one by the end of 2009.
Has any revolutionary new camera system ever gone from the drawing board to retail sales in roughly a year? Is there sound reason to believe this one will? Is Red's core competence speed in getting new products to market?
