new P2 log software for mac

I'd say at the moment it absolutly worth it if you need the 720 50p pass through codec.
Imagine brilliantly came through with it to help all us pal mac users out here that untill p2 log had absolutly no chance of editing pal 720p in fcp.

Is this the only 720p option till Apple support it officially in FCP?
Cheers

and reasonably priced too.. that's a change. Anyone buy it? Will it work with a macbook with no pcmcia slot?

It will work as long as you have the p2 folder transferred to your MB

Hello. I'm not sure to really understand or mayebe it's just because its a really good news. Does that mean that you can edit 720p 50p in FCP after exporting clips from P2 log?

yes!

Use on two macs w/o paying twice?

Use on two macs w/o paying twice?

What are the chances they'll let us put it on our MacBook and our desktop without having to buy two copies of the software? Anymore lots of aps won't , including FCP and Final Draft, but some still do, like FrameForge 3D Studio.

I've got FCP 5 on my G5, but I haven't yet coughed up the small fortune to buy it again for my MacBook Pro. Some day I would have, but geez what a bite. But this ap would actually allow me to do what I really need the MacBook for, checking out clips on a bigger screen, manipulating, etc., while still on a shoot (while they're still mxf)----otherwise I wouldn't actually be needing FCP until I needed to drop stuff onto a timeline on my G5.

If someone at Imagine reads this would you please answer my question about installs permitted. Thanks.

I thought you could have FCP on two computers. You just can't use them at the same time.
Christ, you're right! Wow! Pays to read the the fine print in the license agreement. Don't know where or how I got that notion.

Then this fact begs a question---if I have the FCP Studio (universal) on my G5 (for which I was required to mail in the #1 install disk for the original FCP HD Pro 4.? to get the upgrade, for $199 I think) how can I install it on my MacBook Pro? Will it let me use the upgrade disk set to do an original install on the laptop? I had the upgrade disks before I received the MacBook. Hey, just remembered something: I even called Apple's multi-license desk before I placed the order and they claimed I'd have to buy a second copy of FCP Studio for my laptop. Talk about cornfusing!

Speechless in Missouri,

Carey

Not sure how it will work in your situation but I upgraded from FCP2 to FCP5 on my computer. I didn't have 2 installed at the time. When I installed the upgrade it just asked for my old serial number . Then I entered the upgrade serial number and everything went fine.
I would imagine it would be basically the same thing with you.

Cool!

Cool!

Cool! Fortunately I still have the old serial number written down. Thanks a bunch.

Sorry Carey, the incredible P2 Log is licensed by computer, not by user. If you want to install on 2 computers, you need to buy a license for each. Might want to hurry, $99 is the introductory price...

[HD Log on the other hand, is licensed by user and can be easily moved between computers.]

So if I am on location and my trusty Powerbook takes a dive and I have to buy a new laptop, I need to shell out the cash for P2 Log again?

Doesn't sound so incredible from a consumer POV. Please rethink your licensing strategy. Your higher tagged titles don't have this restriction, why does your entry level product? I'm genuinely curious. I'd like to purchase P2 Log but not with that limitation.

Thanks for what sounds like a great product regardless.

you only run into the FCP licensing issue if you are on a network and this can be deteched through the connection... If you are offline, not an issue....

Also ya'll. I LOVE my macbook. It's handling the HVX and HD like a major champ.. and at 1180 and 450 in upgrades.. it's such a sweet system.

Yesterday I did a real-time live webcast in windows using the windows media encoder for 8 hours without a single problem or hiddcup.... SWEET times.

I mean, is there a reason not to go with a mac laptop now? I even ran premiere pro on the windows side without a problem... I can't wait to get a copy of dv rack...

I have been converting PC people everytime they use the macbook in windows... The keyboard allone is worth the price of the laptop... sweet sweet sweet

The Final Cut Pro 5.1 update changed the license agreement .
In previous versions you were only allowed, legally, to have it installed on one computer at a time.
5.1 changed that to one desktop and one laptop, but with only one of them being used at a time.

Does the P2 Log software have any repair capabilities for damaged clips that can't be imported into FCP? If no, is this a feature available in HD Log or anywhere else?
