new P2 log software for mac

I'm still confused about the workflow with the p2 log.
You shoot 25p with the hvx.
After you transcode with p2 log you inport the quicktime clips in fcp.
What would be your easy setup ???
I'm using fcp 4.5 and in PAL land.

Anybody???

So if I am on location and my trusty Powerbook takes a dive and I have to buy a new laptop, I need to shell out the cash for P2 Log again?

If your computer dies you'll have much bigger problems than missing a $99 software. I don't think you have to worry though, I've seen the Apple commercials and only the PCs die unexpectedly....

As software goes, this stuff has a shorter shelf life than bananas. I'm sure they'll be several versions published long before you upgrade your computer--meaning you'll easily get your $99 worth of value many times over. (If not, you may want to consider a career change.)

yo phil,

I agree... it can be confusing.

There are many details but this is a simple breakdown:

If you can shoot 1080p and stream to a laptop setting it at 1080i (this solves many problems in PAL FCP at the moment as 1080i is a supported codec in FCP)

---- for M2 people---
Create a new timeline for each XML batch you have imported and place all the files into this timeline. Change the Rotation under the motion tab to 180 on the first clip. rightclick on this clip and select copy. then highlight all the other clips in this timeline and once again right click, Now select "paste attributes", select "basic motion" and you should be good to go!

now use these time lines are you browsers for the cilps. Copy an paste then as needed into you master editing sequence (timeline).

---- end of M2 tip-----

for slo-mo, or if you want to be free of the cables shoot 25pn and then copy the entire p2 card to your computer HD. (by this I do not mean drag your HD into a folder but create a folder and open the p2 drive. Then drag the contents into the new folder on the PC)

Use the "Open p2 log" function in the P2 software and export it as a XML file.

import the XML files into FCP.

Before you put the files into a sequence you have created be sure to set up the sequence properly. this means you need to use the easy setup for dvcprohd 720p 30 or 60 and simple change the timebase to "25"

let me know if you are still having problems and I will try to help you sort out any codec problems you may have.

I should mention that this is my work-flo and other may have better ways of doing things

Also be aware that I got my Redrock M2 and had to do a bunch of adjustment to it at Panavision London because the spinning plastic disk was not set right to match the PL mount. Took 3 hours for them to sort it out at no small expense to myself, and I have decided to shoot super16 on my next project as I am still not happy with the look of the M2 + HVX

i will post more info on it all soon.

All the best.
