GH5 New GH6 Wish list

Dear Community,

Anyone have any suggestions for a "GH6" camera? What would you most like to see? What would make the camera a "no brainer" ?

I already saw the request for RAW and FF in another thread, but I'm wondering what else you'd like to see? I do sometimes get to share the wishes of certain communities with product engineers.

Sincerely,

Better image processing, the GH5 has a fake digital look compared to the BMD pocket cinema camera. If Panasonic could improve the image mojo for a more natural look, that would be #1.

An option to disable the forced electronic lens corrections when using native MFT glass.

Lowlight of GH5S + IBIS of GH5. Camera must have IBIS. Lower resolution for better lowlight should be a model option as it’s far better for video work.

4k60p 10-bit 422 internal, including full VFR (FPS @ 36,42,48)

False color built in

Full v-gamut and v-log with greater dynamic range

Super bright super hi res flip out screen

In body electronic variable ND

High bitrafe codec for FHD slow motion up to 240fps

All UI improvements brought about by S1H

14 stops DR
Global Shutter
6-8k
10-12bit internal
HDR screen
open gate aspects like shooting at 2.39:1
shooting aspect guide lines
punch in zoom while recording?
external drive recording
higher recording bit rates.... basically, make it NETFLIX ALLOWED

Greetings Illya,

Better DR with good low light performance
IBIS
4k60p 10-bit internal
Improved auto focus
Full V-Log
Improved VFR image quality
Improved EVF
Tally light for operator and large recording indicator in EVF
No bigger than GH5

Varicam color science V-Log
Better DR with good low light performance
IBIS
4k60p 10-bit internal
Improved auto focus
In body electronic variable ND
High bitrate codec for FHD slow motion up to 240fps
All UI improvements brought about by S1H

Go with two different cameras, as in 5 and 5S, one a true stills/video hybrid and the other videocentric.

Great lists! Mine have been mentioned but to state again:

GH5s level light gathering/noise
IBIS in the videocentric model
Would prefer RAW over V-LOG but if V-LOG then the full Monte.
Improved AF
240FPS
More color/image controls for the picture styles like a color matrix in a video camera (this can be computer software that creates a file that is loaded into the camera as well) A la Canon's 'Picture Style Editor'.

Thanks.

BTW, the "wish list" means the camera hardware is pretty much ready. All that remains are some final software tweaks.

Full vlog
Support for continuous external timecode (not just once from a menu.)

Add: No lag time when viewing with an external monitor

In this event, more focusing only on simpler software additions (some repeats):

- Add False Color as a monitoring tool
- Don't gimp the codecs, especially FHD VFR/HFR codecs. Those are always anemic.
- Make sure to have robust VFR options (somehow, 32, 36, 42, etc.) always get left out, or have poor support (i.e. bad codec, or not 10-bit)
- Custom codecs "my menu", red box around screen when recording, more robust audio recording controls & display, etc. (these are UI features of S1H)
- The electronic lens correcitons disable so that native glass doesn't always look "extra digital"
- The mojo/image processing - less artificial looking, more organic
- Full v-gamut color / vlog curve
- 5 saved presets for IBIS when using manual (non electronic glass) so I can save my entire prime set

And I reiterate, IBIS needs to be present on the video-oriented lower resolution "lowlight" sensor.

Honestly, all I want is touchscreen face-tracking auto focus that's as amazing as the Canon 1DX II.

If nothing else improves but that, I would switch back to Panasonic in a heartbeat. Everything else on the lists above would be gravy.

What happens if Sony comes out with its S1H clone for the same $2,500? Which it will in a few weeks time.

I do not see any chance of a 10bit Sony or Canon hybrid camera, much less for $2,500. If it was a 'same S1H clone' it would be FF and a $4,000 comparison anyway.

The sensor specs for the A7S III are now available. The only question is price. When it comes out, everybody and their brother's uncle will buy it, and then Panasonic will land a hefty punch with the m43 GH6.

They've done it before and I'm hopeful they can do it again.

12-bit 5K? And the Quad Bayer 61 MPX for stills?? If those are the specs - they can be and often are tuned down - it'll be likely priced in high 2,000's and maybe even in the 3,000's, depending on the media and the codec.

Panasonic will have a chance to slide under $2,000. But not because Panasonic's engineers are better than Sony's, but because Sony cedes the MFT market to Panasonic and Olympus (which was partially owned by Sony until recently anyway).

PS. A Quad Bayer sensor will make it unnecessary to launch two different GH-6 cameras. A 12/48 MPX would do fine for both video and stills.

Sony can release it with X-OCN, if they want to. It'll have enough processing power.
