C300: New Canon Promotions Including $4,000 Instant Savings on C300mkII

I'm in the market for a 4K camera, and the $4,000 price drop still doesn't feel like enough. Just my personal opinion, but if the C300 II was $8K it'd still be a tough decision-- because I've spent enough time with both 60P and 30P limits, and 60P has so many benefits beyond the ability to do slo-mo (like more accurate stabilization in post, etc.).

But the ace the FS7 has- again, for me- is it's flange distance. The ability to use a speedbooster, and thus a lens like the Sigma 24-105 at it's FF FOV, with an equivalent f/2.8 aperture, is huge. Or being able to use a $5K cinema lens at both 35mm and 24mm, for instance, is a big benefit in my eyes. If the F5 was adaptable with a speedbooster I'd already own that camera.

Im not trying to hate on Canon at all. I've owned lots of Canon cameras, and there are features the C300 II has that other don't, but do y'all see the C300 II as a lot more attractive at $12K? Just curious.

I've been having a mental battle with myself since the second I found out about the price drop (about a week ago). As much as the camera offers, I agree that $12K is still too much ONLY because it does not have 4K/60P. If the camera had 4K/60P, I would have very likely bought it for $16K when it came out as it includes many other features that I really like.

The slow motion is just very important to me even if it won't be used on every job. I want to have that option in one body.

But with that said, I would probably buy it if it was $8K because it's a really solid camera.

OK I got a bit excited, but to me it looks like:

It's not a price drop, it's a "cash back" only until 30th September. The RRP is still the same.

It isn't the same everywhere: the Aussie price has shifted down by less than US$2K.

However it does now put the price sub AU$20K which means it's eligible for a full tax write off this financial year!

Tempting...

The "cash back" instead of a "permanent price drop" is partially due to the legal and marketing ramifications (try raising the price back up after it's been officially lowered; a "cash back" expiration is a piece of cake and can always be extended, depending upon the demand and the product availability).

Second of all, this fits Canon's marketing MO - start high, then ease off the throttle as the time goes on.

Third, Canon surely knows what is coming up at IBC and PhotoKina and may want to clear its inventory and/or beat new products to the punch.

Fourth, summer is when the new US TV season begins shooting its episodes. This is when the bulk purchases are made by both the production companies and the rental houses. Taking $4,000 off the top in conjunction with the ramped-up demand is good business sense too.

B&H usually has a date when offers like this end. They don't in this case. Some sites have reported it as permanent cut.

Are you saying the price will be back to $15,9999 after Sep 30th?

No, I'm saying this current Instant Rebate has an expiration date of Sept. 30th.....nothing beyond that is officially known. Now if you go back in history on the original C300, Canon did 'roll over" or extend their IRs but we never know until it gets close to the current IR expiration date.

What's the latest on 4K/60P via firmware for the C300? No chance, right?

We can keep wishing for it, but it does not look like it will happen, I thought the hardware in the camera was capable of it... If it was they would have done it already????? Who knows...

It is strange indeed a focal reducer has never came out for the FZ mount! I'd love a Nikon F to FZ focal reducer for my F3.

Focal reducers exists for the KineMount from KineFinity that they use, which is a similar kind of niche they're serving. If I ever was to get a Terra 5K I'd be getting one of those as well for sure.
