C100: New Atomos Ninja Blade With HDMI

I'll be most interested to hear if NB has any of the intermittent issues that ninja2 has, which is my biggest gripe about my ninja2

That was my main issue too with the ninja 2 which made it completely unreliable for me. But with the ninja blade so far it's been working fine ( except for that couple of black rows on the right side, but I think atomos is working on a fix...)

Didn't see this while browsing the thread, but do the caddy's & batteries from the Ninja2 fit the Ninja Blade? I'm assuming yes, but thought it worth asking.

It'd be nice if they sold slimmed down kits for Ninja2 users - like an upgrade. I already have a case/caddies/batteries galore/docking station/et al but would be interested in just purchasing the Blade unit itself...

I'm with you on this also. I have the original Samurai, the Ninja 2 and now the Ninja Blade. So I have basically 3 sets of all the accessories. It's seems excessive but at the same time it seems cool to have a complete eco-system that I can share between units.

Do you really like it primarily for a monitor? I just feel like it might still be a little small. I'm having a tough time deciding whether to pull the trigger on this or the Odyssey7.

Personally, I don't expect to see any in my day to day experiences. It would be nice not to experience the blocking on bright reds - that's the only time when AVCHD shows a weakness, in my experience, workflow and film-making style.

I bought the NB principally as a monitor - the addition of a couple of Sandisk Extreme SSDs gives me a bonus of instant ProRes, but more of a headache with long-term storage. The SSD also makes the NB tangibly heavier - it's surprisingly light by itself.

Ben.

@Rain Man - PMJI, but all kit must obey the first fundamental law of kit: "you only use it if you bring it."

The bigger the kit, the fussier the kit, the more of a drag it is to take it onto a shoot. I've learned the hard way that my Pix220 is far superior in so many ways to so many recorders, BUT it mostly sat in a pelicase all by its self, unloved and bolshy.

The AC7 came with me all the time, and it is a lovely thing, but it is yet another mouth to feed, and it was as it best handed over to a Director whilst I did my job. I noticed how many times I was trotting back to the Director and my AC7 to see what the C100 was actually doing. No, the Pix didn't really help much.

So... The NB is NOT a Director's Monitor - they can hire my AC7 if they want one. It is MY monitor and my recorder. I'm going to use it whether the client knows or pays for it - or not.

If I owned an FS700, I would buy the Odyssey 7 in a heart beat. But I don't. It doesn't offer a C100 owner anything more than the NB, and it does so at a far higher price. I'm sticking with the NB (pixel shift issues notwithstanding).

I have a little delay on the ninja. It's not huge but just enough so It may not work ideally as an EVF or even shoulder rig monitor.

What camera are you using? On 5D3 and 1D C (which have clean HDMI output), there's about 250ms delay from the HDMI output.

What SSDs are you guys using with your Ninjas? I bought x2 Intel 240gb drives but one has failed.
What do you mean by failed? Did it drop frames and behave odd with the Ninja or has it actually completely stopped working....as in a hardware level catastrophic failure? I ask as I have had extremely good luck with the Intel SSDs and have read before that they are the most reliable for using in PCs as their failure rate is much lower than most other brands. Of course they usually cost more too....but typically they are known for being very robust. However, I supposed even Intel can have a defective drive here and there.

because of the screen quality or because it's not light enough?

On my Ninja Blade at the upper left hand corner of the display, there seems to be a continual pulsating pixels, not sure if that's the correct way to describe it. Has anyone else experienced this on their screens? Is this normal?

I seem to be having trouble embedding in here, so the direct link is ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpcL3_Z4JvA

I have this as well. If you go full screen with no overlay it goes away. It's a bug.
