.mts clip join tool

I tried to use the command copy /b *.m2ts 1.m2ts and it works fine and very quickly.

The only problem is that some players just recognise the 1st movie.
The others do play all the movies but cant tell the time they are in.
Win7 x64 mediaplayer stops to tell the time after the 1st movie.

The power director 8 only recognises the 1st movie.

VLC player is the best, beacause i can navegate throw the full length of the joined movie, but cant see the time also.

we also found some of the clips fused in the middle of a clip for some reason. we've done about 120 clips so far and at least 5 to 10% have issues.

also, for anyone doing multicam, 3 or more cameras will definitely require RAID array because of too much data flow and format factory while successful at down converting for sd outputs to avoid the RAID array results in some definitely inferior looking images and has resulted in our first rejected video from a broadcaster. all they said was that the image is below standard. we meet later in the week to learn more why but as for now they have demanded we go back to our former format or we're off their station. thus looking like AVCCAM is not going to work for us.

anyone here in this joining area suffering similar issues?

Just to make sure you realize what the join tool, and command line is for. It should only be used to join multiple files from a continuous shoot, for one file. Because of the 4gb limit of fat32 on the SD card, you end up with multiple files when recording non-stop for an extended time period.

If you join multiple files from different shoots/times there is no guarantee that you will end up with a good result.

Exactly. I mentioned this already, but I'm not sure if everyone understands this limitation correctly.

So here it goes again:
You can't join aribtrary mts streams with my tool.

Only the ones which have been split due to the 4gb FAT32 file size limit, because those files are meant to be one logical continuous stream.

Pailes...

Thank you for writing this piece of software. I use it all the time now, since I primarily shoot theater productions, and have to deal with the split files.
The only thing that would make it a bit easier is to allow selecting multiple files at once, and then be able to arrange them in the program before joining.

Thanks again, your work is appreciated.

Terry

Thanks again Pailes!

Your utility is helped me out a lot. It is nice to be able to treat a long event as one clip at the editing stage.

Have a good 2010!

I see. But of course the joining order must match the recording order in the camera. Maybe it will also help to add the creation time stamp of the file to the list box or something.

Pailes,

Thank you for you MTSMerger.exe executabe! Unfortunately when I tried to use version 1_0_0_2 on Win 7 64-bit I got the following error:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

Any recommendations?

Thank you.

I have downloaded the zip file, extract it and when I double click I get error message The application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.
this is installed on an XP computer at my office. I do not have any .mts files on this computer but am I doing something wrong as far as getting the executable to run.

On our MacPro the joiner didn't work. It did join the files together but then they are "unrecognized" by Final Cut and in fact can't even see them as video files at all when trying to digest them in nor directly imported either.

How is FCP supposed to work with the clips? FCP cannot deal with .mts files unless you log & transfer entire AVCHD media content.

did that and it does not mate up with the other clips
If you use FCP log and transfer you don't need to join the clips, FCP does that automatically. Also, if you join two clips from AVCHD content they don't automatically fit into the AVCHD structure, it's not that easy because the AVCHD playlist doesn't know about the join. It doesn't work that way.

thank for trying to help, however....

its no problem, i got rid of both the hmc150's and the AVCHD palmcorder and went back to my good ole reliable HDV cameras and man o' man do i feel better. in fact, used it tonight in HD mode for a b'day party and are the images ever lovely and with low light even made good video with F8. YES!

so, no need to worry about joining or digesting or log and transfer i just log and capture and im all through and have easy to work with video whose files are definitely easier to work with on my dual quad core 3.6's AND it works sweet on my Avid system like a cinch. no more solid state nor avchd for this puppy. i can even edit my hdv on my macbook pro running windows under parallels with edius and on the mac side under snow leopard with fcp and sweet as honey

as for me and avchd? :violent5: now im on easy street again . . :bath:

Thanks for the effort

I am just had about enough of this AVCHD too.

I bought the videocam for its high resolution and not having to deal with DV tapes anymore. I thought I could just transfer the video to a harddisk and playback to the TV via my WDTV Live. But hate the interruption between clips. I had about few hundred clips for my one month holiday last Nov. It is so irritating the pause between clips.

Spending too much time on softwares (and did not work right in my case) to merge the files just defeat the purpose of getting away from DV.

I am not blaming anyone here but just frustrated with myself.:kali:

Yeah, as for me I had it big time. The resolution was NOT what I was told or shown unless real bright light and clean lighting. However, outside the perfect conditions the crispness and sharpness was NOT there and like you I had all kinds of issues dealing with the material let alone the massive amount of HDD space required AND not getting an image that was any better or equal to my HDV cameras. In fact, our local TV stations (3 in all) like the video out of the Canon HV40 better than out of our AVCHD 150 camera. That was pretty disgusting considering the money we put in the adventure. However, we found a solution by going back to HDV and tape.

If you need some work around solutions, we found lots of them that would get us into older Avid and other systems. Just PM me and I'll give you some workflows. This was what we had to do to work out of the inventory of AVCHD material that backlogged for our 3 camera shoots.

Oh and the tool didn't work for me either but letting FCP ingest the material, then dumping all the clips on a timeline, and exporting them as .AVI or MPEG2 and taking it over to Avid as 3 camera, I found I could do 3 camera without gaps, lockups, or very poor quality video output for HD material. In fact, as AVI the material was easier to adjust the "look" and "feel" of the picture more better than trying to do that to the AVCHD format. Not sure why but maybe someone can explain that AND FCP does NOT like .AVI (the latter for reference).

Ran the merger on (2) 150 cams footage last weekend - about 1 1/2 hours worth total per cam. Merged files flawlessly.

Very happy with the merger.
