"MODEL / PHOTOGRAPHER" - an ELOQUENT GRAFFITI prelude – a film by SABI

Best use of color.
Best use of music.
Best humans.
Most moving.
Simplest.

I loved the car alarms in the background when they kissed, like a siren protesting the breach of a danger zone. Not sure whether I would be more excited to learn that was a practical accident or a post contrivance.

That alarm was indeed cool, and it was great to hear it.

It sounded very real, as if it was recorded on set. But my guess it was done in post!

cool, thanks chad from noho (i used to live in north hollywood, how do you like it?). your use of the word "melodrama" would imply you felt the emotions were exaggerated and/or unearned. care to expand on that?

i dont know if you actually watched it in a roomful of men and women but if so, i find the psychology at work pretty interesting -- with the men largely looking to process the film thru logical thinking and the women processing it intuitively. that's a gross oversimplification but thought-provoking nonetheless.

btw, that "great gear" costs less than $900. :)
It's been an interesting change from where I was living. Cops and security aren't big fans of "car beds". And no, not a full room, just two couples. Perhaps I was just more disturbed being the one who is normally having to explain "what just happened" to other people. I know it's but a snippet of a larger project, so that might be why I'm feeling a lack of info. I guess for me a super short movie, with little to no dialogue, and little to no action (no I don't mean big explosions and talking robots) is going to leave a lot more assumptions than interpretation. And again, just me, I didn't walk away with more than he took pictures of her, kissed her, then they both cried separately. The girls created this whole back story of a relationship and things went bad (yes they had more detailed scenes and dialogue than I'm transcribing). I don't know, maybe I'm just not as creative as I thought, or maybe I missed something.

To go completely off topic, I saw Knowing earlier tonight, Alex Proyas is still the shisit, and though Nicolas Cage carried the heavy movie like a champ, I don't know why with an end of the world scenario such as this that they went away from casting Bruce or Keanu. I thought it was the law that if someone was going to save the world in a movie it could only be one of the two. Maybe that could be a pole, who is better at saving the world? But yeah, the RED is definitely ready to take over the industry, it did so well that I didn't even notice the damn thing wasn't shot with film.

900 dollars? where exactly did you get a deal like that? Was that including the camera?

we scouted for locations with great ambient light, so no lighting gear was needed. the lens I shot on was $50... a second or third hand 28mm nikon. not run and gun, we took our time, but used minimal gear for sure. this was a nano-budget production. :)

Finally got a chance to check this out. You really put that camera to good use. Every composition looked great, story told with minimal dialog, etc. The sound quality of the dialog wasn't the best on my system but minor complaint as the rest worked.

What lens was on the end of your D90?

a Nikon 28mm f/2.0

Well, I still think you should have been #1, but what can you do. Congrats either way!

Congrats Zak! Well deserved! Any plans to continue with this on the festival circuit or will this solely serve as the prelude to EG? Seems like it could have the same great success IFHY did.
