T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

Hi, I have a hdmi-to-dvi cable and it seems that my monitor (HP ZR24W) does not get a 1080 resolution from the camera. Also there is no change of the picture when I start recording. Do I need a special adapter from hdmi to dvi?

Yeah, Alex, it seems to freeze in the main frame, but then all the little frames up top are still active. Keep up the good work.

alex, i must admit i liked it better when i could scroll through the pic styles and see them update on the screen. also, i don't think this version keeps the saturation and contrast settings from the user pic styles. pic style surely doesn't work as well in this version.

Ditto for this - in every other way, I love the new (June 7) changes, but I also really miss scrolling through the picture styles, one of the neatest features of ML....

Any way, thank you Alex for all the effort!

I have the same issue. I don't have a native 1080 capable device with HDMI in, only a monitor with DVI in. Since nobody else seems to have this issue, I'm guessing it is a problem when going from HDMI -> DVI, although I can't imagine why as I understand DVI to be a subset of HDMI.

I'll be getting a native HDMI device in the next few weeks, so I'll report if that works or not.

If you ever get 1080 working going from HDMI to DVI, please do update the forum.

Picture Style

Alex re-compiled the June7 code and the Picture Style glitch went away. Re-download and install - it worked for me.

the ml logo pops up all the time, e.g. in playback mode when cycling through photos. is there a way of turning that off, or am i doing something wrong? i have the latest build i think.

I dont know if anything is wrong or now, but i do know when the ML logo was first added there was a note somewhere that if you didn't like seeing it you could just remove the file from the SD card and it wouldn't have any negative impact on your build. Obviously this isn't a fix but a work around for your problem.

thanks, i'll try that!

I just installed ML for my 550D and when i booted up, all fine BUT no extra ISO functions and mainly and most annoying when using the timelapse/intervelometer feature it turns my camera off, Well... I set the interval time so for instance every 10 seconds THEN I hit intervelometer ON. It starts taking photos and it takes about 11 photos then the LCD just goes off and the function stops working. I have to take the card out, pop it back in and then turn on again for it to come on. I've tried turning powersave off and no luck. Maybe its not the latest build? if so could someone post me the VERY LATEST ML build for 550D? :) cheers,

I'm thinking of getting one of them external LCDs. can one of you guys walk me through the pros and cons of using an external LCD with Magic Lantern and of the caveats (if there are).

Currently I'm using LCDVF and together with ML it is a BLAST (incredibly good). but, of course, one is very limited in doing so. not 100% limited but still...

Thanks

the only real pro is for framing and looking more professional. Focusing is near impossible at SD resolutions.

Not when using Magic Zoom. SD is the same resolution as the display on camera, so it won't be any harder than using Magic Zoom to help focus there (which I do regularly).

Real advantage to external monitor IMO, is to be able to position the monitor for the talent to see as well. There's one guy I shoot regularly for a web series who likes to move around a lot. When he can see how he is framed, he can make sure not to step outside the box. Also helpful if you record yourself or shoot in weird locations (shot a talking head once from the side of a car, wouldn't have been able to see the display from where the camera was mounted.
