T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

First off, its ZEch, but no biggie.

Ive used MarvelCine before and felt it was half way between Superflat and a modified Neutral (0,-4,-2,0) and felt I could easily take Superflat there if I wanted to.
Considering everything else is rec. 790 and the "breakthrough" of Cinestyle is the LogC, I imagine that the MarvelCine will be almost identical to the superflat.
If you recall my tests, the regular scenes were near identical, it was only far over exposed that showed much difference.

If you have a good grading workflow that starts with MarvelCine and it works than great, you probably wont NEED Cinestyle, although you should give it a shot. If you've got 5D's that your trying to cut against film, than ya, the LogC is going to save your life...at least thats what it was designed for.

There is a rumor that you have to take the card out to update picture style, but it worked still in for me.

the RGB zebras are NICE!!!

plus: my own technicolor tests:
http://www.similaar.com/foto/picturestyles/picturestyles.html
amazing dynamic range, but clay-looking people and grey skin tones that due to my lack of skills I'm not able to correct in post; I'll only use it when I absolutely need the DR
Hehe this was exactly the same problem with MarvelCine v3.3, ence they've corrected it with v3.4 .

It would be interesting to match the two (I have no skills for that...)

I have also noticed the enhanced DR.

First off, its ZEch.
Oh man, me bad. sorry :undecided :embarasse

Well, apparently someone already did the test between the Cine Styles...

i just loaded it on my 7d and took some pics just to test dynamic range and skin tone (quick eye test) against Marvels advanced and extra flat setting (i chucked superflat eons ago). Its kicking ass. Cant wait till tomorrow to go outside and shoot some stuff. bedtime.

Hi there, I am just testing the cinestyle profile and wondered, why the darks get clipped below 16. So I only have picture information in 16-255. Isnt this quite a loss if I want to 'fix it in post'?

I really like the new rgb zebra, although the drawn pixels are to clumpsy yet in my opinion. It would be better if the pixels were smaller and than only every third or so.

Best regards,
Dorian

If I leave the diagonal display for RGB zebras, it will be difficult to see which channel clipped, as the zebra colors will mix with the scene, resulting in a muddy mess. Low resolution is to maintain a decent frame rate.

@a1ex,

At present the magic zoom positions of NW,NE,etc all stand off a bit from the corners.

Is it possible to get them exact to the corners?

i have a stupid question guys but i want to make sure i do it right. i installed ML in feb. and have never updated it. so if i want to update, i just take the card out, put it in the computer, open the card and replace all the ML files on the card with the new ones from the update? and then i can just put the card in my camera and im good to go?

Ran some skintone tests with some diferent picture profiles: Neutral, MarvelCine, SuperFlat, and CineStyle. http://t.co/7o1YleA
I dont want to bog up the thread, just knew AriG asked for it and thought some other people would be interested. Used ML to get ISO 160.

ZEch....thank you

BTW, Alex... regarding the new shutter speed chioces... what does it mean that one can choose in Canon's menu 1/50 but with ML menu there only an option for 1/48 ?

AriG: it means the true value may be 1/48 (more exactly, 1/48.1941 or 1/48.2718) if my theory (from the PDF) is right.

andthen: yes.

Alex: thanks for your work, the Magic Lantern extension to the 550d is truly amazing!

One thing I'm a bit cautious about though: I am in PAL land (Sweden) and often using 25P. I wonder what the shutter speed of 1/48 will do to my footage, given that I don't seem to be able to use 1/50th of a second anymore in video mode (is this correct?). I seem to recall that previously, when 1/48 wasn't available, the general consensus among 24P shooters was that 1/50 was "close enough" Will it be the same the other way around?
