T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

Try setting ClrScreen to WhenIdle. It's not exactly what you describe, but pretty close.

For AF you can use the * button.

The suggestions are interesting, I'll think about them.

I think I read this somwehere but can't find it now. I installed the RC 0.2.0 and everything is great except that I don't get sound on video playback in the camera. What is I to do?

Has anyone bricked their camera yet on this? I'm always wary of unofficial stuff but the firmware is so good looking (I wanna date it)

Can I ask a few questions about it though.

What do these features do/are good for:

Rack focus (Does the camera do this automatically or something, rack focus to mean means manually switching focus)

Trap focus (This is interesting, if I leave my camera with a macro lens next to some ants (ohshi, ants broke my camera) it would take a picture everytime they come into focus?)

Bit Rate control (Isn't the video already like lossless? Could raising bit rate increase the quality at all?)

Thanks.

To my knowledge, no one has bricked their cam (at least no one has admitted to it). Only real danger seems to be in the actual installation, not in the firmware itself.

Hi Alex, thanks for the new build, all of the fixes are really good!

Maybe I have some things to think about:

During the last shootings I recognised, that its hard to see, if a part of the image tends to get noisy.
Unfortunately, the noise is not only dependant on the iso setting, there seem to be more factors.
I saw, that the most critical channel is the red channel, which can clip at only 50% luminance and on the other side noise becomes visible below 20%. I did some test shots with pure colours.
In real shots, this becomes mostly visible in skin tones or wood.

I wonder if it would be possible add a noise warning, similar to the zebras.

Another tasty thing would be a little warning graph beside the histogram or in the top bar which colour channels are about to clip.

Best regards,
Dorian

bumping my issue - no audio during video playback - workarounds?

edit: got arond to it myself, just installed the latest build.

Its about time someone made this thread an official sticky.

I'm going to go ahead and fix that now.

EDIT:
...aaand done.

Try both algorithms and try adjusting the threshold. If it still doesn't work, post a few silent pictures from your scene (they are used for computing focus peaking).

Ok...Im back...thanks for the suggestions and the help Alex, MORF algorithm is not working at 1080 for me, no matter what I do with the threshold but HDIF is just fine so Im happy with that...!
Both algorithms are perfect at 720 mode.
Anyway I shot some macro footage while I was in the nature and all I can say is that focus peaking is awesome! Shooting macro under the sun without it could have been impossible!
Here is the link with the video: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?247376-550D-macro-footage

Thanks again for your hard work...

I have installed technicolor's PS. however, I can no longer see the names of the picture styles in canon menu in movie mode (they were there before)

Is this PS too flat for White Balance readings ? or is it not related at all ?

Regarding the rec mode I mentioned a few weeks ago :

The thing with half shutter press is that one can not get light reading in canon menu until he presses the shutter (half press). but half press engages record so its a little problem...

Thanks for your hard work, as always !

You should only use half-shutter for record in special situations (e.g. with wired remote). I can't override the full-shutter press.

But friend, this is exactly what I'm talking about :-)

I have found my (previously unused) cheap wired remote to be EXTREMELY helpful, not having to remove my hands from my rig grips when shooting video.

BUT

Not having initial light reading (the moving mark on the light meter) means that I must press the shutter (half) or the (*) button in order to "wake" the meter mark up (ie. make it visible so I'll be able to see the light reading). but this exact action also initiates Rec....

I can't override the full-shutter press.
I see.

OK. I just hope they'll be a solution for this in the future...

BTW

Are there any remarks (if at all) about the implications of using the Technicolor CineStyle when shooting with ML (again, if at all. because IIRC, you guys recommended not to shoot "too flat". and I wanted to know if Technicolor's one is considered "too flat")

The Technicolor Cinestyle is EXTREMELY flat. Don't shoot with it unless you plan on color correcting.
I think that I get a better image with flat profiles than the "get it as close in camera" technique, you just gotta know what your doing with CC.
Here is a quick comparison between Cinestyle and Superflat, my previous favorite: http://zech-fstop.blogspot.com/2011/04/new-picture-style-from-technicolor_29.html

I don't think there is any effect on ML by Cinestyle or vice versa, except that the native ISOs really helps reduce noise, but that applies to all picture styles.
