Tripod for Snowboarding, Mountain bike Shoots

Greetings,

I have bumped around and read the Tripod sticky and i seem to be leaning towards the Libec system here....... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/444588-REG/Libec_LS382A_LS38_Tripod_System_Supports.html

As mentioned in the thread title i do alot of shooting out on the slopes, ski/snowboarding during winter and mountain biking during summer. I am sure the above tripod/head will give me all the quality i need, but i was wondering if anyone who shoots along the same lines as i do has any suggestions or pro or cons with this set up. It seems a bit heavy to me... 13.5 lbs. I like to roll as lite weight as i can, but don't want to give up quality.

Enough of my rambling. SO i am basically looking for thoughts on this setup for outdoor action sports shooting, or suggestions of other setups that may have worked for others.

Thanks

Ed

Well I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I am still leaning toward the setup in the link above, but i am wondering if its too much for a DVX100b. The H38 head is said to support 17 lbs... thats more than 3 times the weight of DVX!

I am also considering this setup, which seems to be lighter and less expensive...... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...ZC3_LS_22_Aluminum_Tripod_System.html#reviews

Again, if anyone has any thoughts on this rig for a DVX, or any other suggestions for that matter, I am all ears!

Thanks!

My first suggestion will be to purchase a tripod with a mid-level spreader not a ground spreader. You will be working in difficult/uneven terrain and the ground spreader will be difficult to use.

My second suggestion is to go with a carbon fiber tripod. It's stronger. Lighter and more durable as far as dealing with adverse weather conditions. Hose it off and you are good to go.

I've never used or seen Libec gear before so I can not say if it's good or bad. I would suggest looking at Sachtler DV8SB or DV6SB system. Personally I use a Vinten Vision 8 with Vinten Carbon Fiber legs and keep my Sachtler DV8SB as a backup.
