T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

But when you're making your SD card bootable for Magic Lantern are you still able to use that card to store footage? And if that's the case do I have to make all of my cards bootable to use Magic Lantern on all the cards?

Yes, you can still store footage on the card. And, yes, you need to make all your cards bootable and install ML to use ML each time you insert a new card. If you use a non-bootable (non-ML) card, then the camera simply reverts to its normal operation without all the ML features.

Sweet thanks! I also heard I should probably get another SD card for photos because there were some glitches with the ML in Photo Mode. Is that still an issue or was that fixed?

So... really? No one else noticed you can't play back sound on the camera?

I'm testing different mic hookups with AGC off, and I have to move the card to the PC to hear anything! Camera won't play back sound after a quick splurt of audio!

I'm using the firmware dated 1/5 and I'm getting audio playback just fine with a variety of input settings; internal mic, external stereo mic, and the combo setting.

Is the audio volume turned up on the first page of the ML menu? I've hit that when I was trying to adjust the Analog Gain by mistake, but caught it before playing back.

I have been aware of what sounds like an occasional audio jitter when playing back in the computer, as though the recording media isn't keeping up with the input, but so far haven't had anyone else able to duplicate this on other cameras.

Haven't experienced what you are describing as a "splurt" of sound either, but had noticed a couple of times a drop out of audio within the first couple of seconds of recording, however that seems to be gone with the latest build.

Update: I just installed the 1/6 version and still had no problems with playback, but this time I tried running the Output Volume to a setting of 0. I was still able to hear the audio and could only kill it by rolling the selector wheel down.

the problem can be the connection in contraphase of the mic

You're probably using an old version, there was an issue with that in earlier versions

Say what now?

So hold on, the latest Beta is 12/19 0.2, isn't it? Are you using the Alpha (test) builds? I thought those weren't ready for prime time, and more risky than the official beta releases?

My problem has nothing to do with playing back on the computer- in fact, the audio is recording just fine because it plays perfectly on the computer. Its on the camera that I hear the "spurt" (which is how I know its not a volume control issue)- in other words, it plays for a split second, then freezes up (however the video continues to play). If I pause the play back, and advance a couple of frames manually, and hit play again, it will play for another split second, then the sound mutes (or freezes, depending on how you look at it). Once, while trying to get it to play sound by pausing and playing, both the video AND audio froze, and I had to pull the battery.

I found reference to this on the MagicLantern 0.2 12/19 release in the discussion board ( http://groups.google.com/group/ml-devel/browse_thread/thread/850ec268bc883ceb ), and lo and behold: about 4-5 posts down the page, they have a test release to fix it. So I copied that onto my card and it seems to be OK now. Maybe I'm not understanding how these releases work, but is everyone else just using the test builds as soon as they come out? Otherwise, everyone should have encountered this problem already....

Whenever I read that a new version has been released I just load it up, I started with the Dec 24th build and have been updating almost daily ever since.
I didn't know there was a difference in them being alpha or beta.

So far every one of the releases has been a major improvement over the last, and since the firmware can be deleted with a simple formatting of the card, it's a small risk to take. Although I do wait a bit until I'm sure no one posts a "I BRICKED MY CAMERA!!" thread. :)

Sounds like you found a fix for that audio issue, I'm still testing my camera to see if I can chase down the "jitters" in the sound I'm encountering, I'm hoping it's just something I'm doing wrong.

So good, a1ex - this just keeps getting better and better.

I've looked back through the threads, was it ever determined if FPS can be adjusted? 48fps or 72fps would be very nice.

Did I get that correct?

Does the latest build enable audio monitoring while recording through the headphone jack or is this just a fix for problems with audio on playback?

Lenny Levy

Yes, it enables audio monitoring through headphones. Playback was fixed a long time ago.

Well I just attached some headphones to my T2i using the mini USB to RCA then adapting that back to a female mini.
Of course I have Jan 2nd build not the new . I heard nothing while in shoot mode, or when I thought I was playing back..
but also it took away my monitor so I couldn't see whether playback was really running.

So how are you supposed to monitor audio with this thing?

Can you do it without taking away the screen also?

You have to plug it in after the camera boots up. Hopefuly they'll get this fixed soon.

Just ordered both adapters, should be able to report back by Thursday!

Cool!
