Magic Lantern Firmware

Sorted - thanks

Sorted - thanks

On my 600D I have 1.0.2 firmware now. Will I have to downgrade to version 1.0.1 so that I can install the present version of ML ?

Thanks

I found out by asking on Twitter and yes I did have to downgrade to 1.0.1

Now I have ML installed - Lots of playing with all of the settings now to learn all about it.

alex as you might remember I'm still getting the stopped recording message at random due to full buffer on my 550d.
I recall you also use the transcend 16gb class 10 card (but I said also happens with others) and you don't experience the problem, so the only think that could cause the problem is how I have the card formatted? What allocation size are you using?
This problem is extremely annoying because everytime I start recording it could stop between the first 10 secs and we have to start all over again. This could happen 5 times in a row before we can get a real recording :(

I always format the card from the camera - with the option of restoring ML.

Does it happen with a fresh ML config? Maybe there's some option which overloads the CPU? You have bitrate at 1x, right?

honestly? I have no idea it happens so randomdly I never got a clue, the only thing I noticed (but no sure) is that it happens when the card is >30% full.

Now i made a clean install and formatted from the camera, the buffer icon doesn't even appear now. I'll report back

it happened with a fresh install and format from the camera! This time the buffer icon showed after 10 secs and when full stopped , it usually appears inconstantly when i start recording . I honestly don't know what it is

Sandro,

I used to use a Transcend card (32GB, Class 6) in my Canon T2i until I started getting corrupted files. I have since switched to SanDisk and never looked back.

My T2i works great with Magic Lantern on the SanDisk card. To be fair, it worked with the Transcend card before too, but I'm afraid of Transcend cards now after losing a couple of files!

I use 18 of the Sandisk Extreme SD cards. My photographers uses many CF cards. He have trouble with transcend cards. Now he just didn't want to chance losing any wedding photos.

Going Sandisk doesn't mean no issue at all. I so far have 2 errors. I was able to recover them.

Hi, I was experimenting a bit with the bleeding edge build and my 550D.
Here are a few screenshots from different experimental functions:

Highlight-Recovery off:
HR-off.jpg
Highlight-Recovery +1 (seems to be the optimal value, not a lot of pink colour, histogram is 'full')
HR-1.jpg
Highlight-Recovery +2 (a bit to much? histogram is clipped and there is not much more detail, just pink)
HR-2.jpg

Normal image (Image Effects off)
normal.jpgnegative3.jpg

Inverted negative (Image Effects on with negative parameter, channels inverted in post -> very low resolution ??)
negative.jpgnegative2.jpg

So far, so good :-) I am very curious, what other features are hidden in these cameras and I will continure testing/playing.

Nice. Was it at ISO 100?

Looks like there's around 0.6 EV of extra highlight data in all channels, with white remaining white (that means, ISO 70 is native and ISO 100 is digitally pushed? just a hypothesis).

For ISO 160/320/640, there will be only 0.3 EV of extra headroom. This means native ISOs may be 125, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 (with H++ set at 0.6 EV, so from Canon menu you would have to select some ISO based on 200, 400, 800, 1600 or 3200).

And all ISOs normally used by Canon seem to be digitally pushed.

Can you do some noise tests?

so i was trying to install magic lantern on my t2i and i have 1.0.9 firmware, but i will never get the green screen, the light will just blink and blink and blink, and i cleared all the camera settings, please let me know if you can help me, i really want ml on my t2i

The new frame rate override is proving to be one of the most incredible tools I've found in ML. Not quite the same as doing 5k timelapses, but for immesurably simpler workflow timelapse work it is truly incredible.

Here's my latest sample - http://vimeo.com/37739637

Hi all,

I've had my new 550D for about a week now and today I installed Magic Lantern and after little hickup during the install everything went smooth.

That is untill a few hours later, I did some test shots with Magic Lantern and then turned off the camera but to my suprise I still saw the little red read/wright light flashing once.
At first I thought nothing of it, I thought it was just a thing Magic Lantern did while turning off the camera and put it in my bag.

Just now I pulled it out of my bag again to try some low light stuff and to my suprise I saw the red light blinking again....and the camera was very much turned off.
So I turned on my camera and it did nothing, I pulled out the card and then it worked again.
I checked the battery and wouldnt you know it, my recently filled battery (couldnt have used it for more than 10 minutes) is almost entirly drained and the camera felt a bit warm to the touch, as if its been on all the time since I last "turned it off".

Any idea on how this could have happend?

That blinking indicates an incomplete shutdown (a sign that you have to take the battery out). Normally, the LED should stay on for a moment when you turn the camera off (and then turn off completely).

Try to find out what causes this behavior (it's probably some function which I rarely use, or maybe a combination of them). It might be a function that you used right before powering off.

Bad cards can also cause this.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the response, I'll try and find out what caused it.
The last thing I did was show off Magic Lantern ("Look it has zebra stripes now!") so I dont really know which function might have caused it.

It might very well be my card but its a brand new 4gig transcend class 10 card (those cards arent to bad right?) but I'll keep an eye out to see if it happens again and I'll note which functions I used.

I think it's time to start the "get a 5D3 for the ML developers to play with" campaign...
should I start a thread on the subject?
