Magic Lantern Firmware

Just installed 2.3 on my 60D. Works great but am wondering why I get a few "off" shutter speeds. Namely 1/47th a sec instead of 1/48th.
 
Any Full Magic Lantern Release on 7D yet? I have been using the Alpha and love it, just more more Capabilities like my Mark II
 
Has anyone seen any new info on Magic Lantern's new RAW capabilities being tested out on a 7D? Also, am I mistaken in understanding that the nightly builds do not work with the 7D if I were to compile myself? And last but not least, does anyone know if HDR video is possible to be ported to the 7D?

i have updated to latest ml build for my 60d but cant work out of find the option to shoot in RAW. can i please just get a few pointers? i look in the manual but still couldnt work it out!
 
I have never installed Magic Lantern on my Canon T2i yet but have recently been thinking about it. I have a really basic question about ML and its probably been mentioned somewhere in the previous 30 pages of this thread but to be honest I think it will be faster for me to just post it here:

When you download and install ML on to an SD card, does that card need to be in your camera every time you want to use ML? Or once you install ML from the SD card to the camera, does it remain in the camera's internal memory forever? This is the one thing I've never understood about ML. The instructions make it sound like the SD card with ML always needs to be in your camera to use it, but that seems weird. What if you fill up an SD card with footage and need to swap out with another card? Or do you just load ML on to a bunch of SD cards to keep with you?

Logically I would think that once you swap the Canon firmware with ML it will always be in the camera, regardless of what SD card you use. But like I said, the instructions don't make this clear, at least to me.

While I'm here let me ask one more basic question: suppose you install ML but then decide to remove it for whatever reason, say if you want to sell your camera. Can you remove ML easily and reinstall the Canon firmware?

The camera will boot with ML firmware ONLY when using memory cards with ML in them. Yes if you want to be using ML with your camera you should put ML in all the cards you re going to use. If you put a non-ML card in your camera it will boot with the stock canon firmware. I would advise you to ALWAYS have with you a non-ML low level formatted card. In the rare occasion that your camera will ''stuck'' use that card to boot your camera.
And yes, you can remove ML at anytime...
 
Thanks lyrov! One more question: I'm still confused as to whether ML replaces the Canon firmware or just works on top of it. So let's say I want to stop using ML to sell my camera or whatever. Is it just a matter of not using the SD card with ML on it? Will a Canon camera boot fine if ML is not on the SD card? Or would I need to go back and re-install the Canon firmware? And in that case, does this mean my T2i cannot be used at all unless either the ML SD card is in it or the Canon firmware is installed?

Sorry again if these are dumbs questions, but the answers so far are very helpful!
 
For my understanding of it, Magic Lantern requires the use of a modified firmware, which is functionally identical to Canon's firmware, with one subtle change - it knows to look in the SD card for any additional firmware modules to load. That's why you can't take your magic lantern card and put it in someone else's camera and have Magic Lantern boot up - and why you can put any non-ML card into your camera and you won't load the Magic Lantern firmware.

When you remove the card with ML and place another without it, you camera boots to default canon settings and it would act like a "normal" canon only firmware.

No need to reinstall the canon firmware since the canon firmware is always in the ROM of the camera. ML is only in the RAM which loads upon bootup if the sd or cf card has ML.

Well, the truth is that ML will really transform your T2i to a much more useful camera with lots of features and options. However unless you re planning to shoot RAW (which is limited for the T2i, check here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6215.0) you ll not see any difference in the final image. But you ll have the necessary tools to work more efficiently! If I were you, I would try it for some time to see if it works for me. In fact I had it in all my Canon DSLRs (550D, 600D, 60D). Now my primary camera is the 70D which has not been hacked yet...

I've heard that upscaling the RAW footage to 720p provides better picture quality compared to the canon compression. I would imagine this is especially true when it comes to low light situations. However, I have not yet hacked my t2i because I'm afraid of relearning the UI, haha.
