Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

edit: this was wrong, sorry

@jcs: very cool! :)
I have an rfactor simulator attached to my 52" TV... and no time to play with it because I'm coding my own stuff

Internal audio goes OOS. External syncs perfectly. The devs haven't gotten to sound yet.

What they have gotten too though is great - the "auto save" of the footer now, and "enable 4GB" is no longer even a menu option on the later 05/28 build.
64GB on a 5d3 Komputerbay card - full recording @1920x1080 raw:
Filesize is 62,467,329 KB, aka 62.4 GB.
Number of dng files / frames: 17,647
Length of footage = 12 minutes + I forget how many seconds (like 20)
Latest build auto-saves the footer now.

Cool!

It's just about ready for primetime.

HDMI monitoring and internal audio sync still needs some work.

Just got a used 50D and 2xKomputerbay 64GB cards. Will play tonight.

Everything I've seen so far from the 50D RAW is underwhelming, and not surprisingly so. Motion is juddery and the resolution isn't fantastic. It's a neat trick, but hopefully you didn't pay too much.

the latest ML folder is quite smaller, 98 kb only. one from 22nd is 10.3 mb. Do you replace something in newer build?
How do you install 28th build? Thank you!

Some of the builds don't contain all the contents of the ML folder, just the updated module files. Don't replace the folder.

I received Коmputer bay udmi7 x1000 cards 64 gb, tested in camera, all five run 84..87 Мbs write, consistent, buffer in full HD in one dot all times

Another nice feature of Raw mode with the 5D mkII is that on my SWIT HD monitor, the resolution won't drop down to SD anymore when recording!
In fact there is now no delay or glitch.

The bug is, it hangs the camera if you try to view the footage with HDMI cable attached ( ERR 70 ) so if if want to view footy, remove the hdmi cable.

Would you like to sell one of these? I bought 3 Komputerbay 64GB 1000x cards; 1 wouldn't work in camera, the 2nd was fine (1920x1080 no problem) and the 3rd wouldn't write faster than about 67MB/s. PM me if so. You surely don't need all 5...:)

To me, here are the main selling points to the 5d3 raw:

1. Better image, more dynamic range, sharper.
2. Since you're basically bypassing the color profiles, you can now shoot with in-camera sharpness cranked way up; it really helps to pull focus easier. I shoot on standard with sharpness turned up, contrast and saturation at default levels. Much easier to focus compared to a flat 0 sharp -4 contrast setting.
3. The 1:1 crop mode. This is basically a 3x zoom; your 24-70 lens is now a 72-210 lens. I shoot with the Tamron, so it's stabilized. Also your 70-200 USM II 2.8 lens is 210-600mm; it's VERY handy now shooting video of my son playing baseball in a field far away. Sure there's a hassle getting the crop marks lined up (latest build seems to be about 16 to the left and 3 up to get the box centered) but still - pretty amazing.
4. Since I switch from stills to video often shooting my kids' sports, I've accidentally left the shutter speed way too high and/or blown out video footage for whatever reason. Like a regular camera raw, you can get this footage back by adjust exposure in post - it works a treat as Bloom would say.

For $114 I bought a 64GB Komputerbay card - I've done a 12 minute + continuous shot. While it takes some time to extract and render, it's pretty amazing. I just can't go back to H264 unless I've got a longer recording to take and can't babysit the camera.

Downsides: the audio is still out of sync, and it's not like it's a continuous 1 second off where you can move the track around in post. I've had some that on a 3 minute clip the beginning had the audio ahead, the middle was fine, and then the audio fell behind at the end. It's almost like it's dropping audio frames.

It's certainly made me not thing about the Blackmagic cameras for now...

Are you trying to sync with a separate wav file or with external audio? I am just asking because last time I tested with my Zoom H2 audio file, it did sync fine. Perhaps I didn't try syncing a longer take.

sparky33, I am in Russia :) Probably need all of them, just in case! sorry to hear that you have problems with your cards.

External audio syncs fine. Internal audio is losing packets, and thus goes out of sync in a way that can't be fixed with just one sync edit (must be cut & resync'd multiple times).
