Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

Aduio is now available though not in the nightly builds via the magic lantern MLV file format.

With this you can edit DNGs with audio only in Premiere CC at this time.

(no worries about damaging camera sensor. I have shot a short film and days and days of footage with no issue)

Hi Steve,
Thanks for pointing this out. So where can we get this module? I hate their forum over there, it's a bloody mess. Have to wade through pages of drivel as some kind of Machiavellian test to find anything....

Yes, a mlv file is raw video. The difference compared to the original Magic Lantern raw video file is that mlv includes meta data.

I believe its in the first post in this thread Yoclay.

You'll have to use the mlvbrowser for mlv extraction. FYI, MLV is the 2nd generation format that supports RAW in Magic Lantern.

Still can't find this to download it. Not in the first post. No one seems to know where it is, yet a bunch of folks have it. I recognize that changes are always happening, but unless you are part of the club that follows the threads religously, these important downloads are always buried. It is very tiring. It would be great if they could update their download page more regularly.
Would really love to get a recently updated MLV v2.0 with Audio if someone has it for the 5DMIII.

I have to agree.... ML forum is really lacking a central leadership. I got some files down but man its a lot different from how the old ML works. The UI seems the wrong size and I got some kind of program error.

It's a mess. I have a feeling the mlv_snd module will be included in the nightly builds any day now so probably best to wait.

New update: improved DR
It seems there's both a genuine sensor calibration improvement, with no drawbacks whatsoever (about half a stop better DR), and an improved dual-ISO mode.

edit: detailed explanation here

really looking forward to a release of this…. while it's a mere .5 stop, blown or hard graduated highlights is what takes away a lot from the image. Raw is amazing as it is, but better highlight control is always welcome.

I finally got myself together and tested the .MLV with sound and how to dump the files on Mac…. Easy peasy once you get the hang of it. The inclusion of sound really makes raw functional alas still heavy in processing.
Only thing holding me back is the 1-2 frame pr. sec. rendering in AE with my slow computer. Give me a mac pro!! :)

It looks like this DR feature is only available for stills (for now).

Resolve is doing a decent job with ML dngs and at a much faster speed. I get real time debayering at quarter res on a 4 years old laptop. 8-10fps at full res.
And full res real time on a newish gaming rig with lots and lots of power to spare.

Indeed (my initial source didn't say anything about that, the link I later posted up here does talk about this)

No idea why RAW video shouldn't get the same boost as RAW stills: looking at the technical explanation it should work the same on both, so I'm keeping some hope alive that we may see this improvement in video too at some point.
