LoveFest Rules

Is it permissible to host BTS footage on a public hosting site (dailymotion, youtube)? It doesn't mention the movie itself or do anything to promote it, but I've been told to check in here.

If you're just using youtube as a hosting service for BTS footage you're going to link here, that's fine. Just as long as you're not doing anything to drive traffic to film from other sites that's fine.

It's okay to enter for exhibition purposes if one of the rules are broken, correct? Mostly concerned with the time restriction.

It's at our disgression whether we allow any exhibition only films. We really try to discourage it because it messes people up with the voting and sort of dilutes out the fest. Ultimately, we'd like to discontinue screening anything that doesn't meet the rules.

i have a question about "external web sites / outside promotion". the rules state: Films may only be promoted on DVXuser.com before screening and no actual footage from films may be screened prior to the DVXuser screening. No promotion on external web sites is allowed until after the screening has been completed.

so... is it permissible to have a personal web site or something like a myspace account for the film that does not reveal any footage from the film or advertise its involvement in the DVXuser LoveFest competition? or, must the film effectively remain completely "dark" other than here at dvxuser.com until voting is closed?

right.

having files on something iike youtube is apparently a necessary evil to provide people with no servers the ability to host files.

people have had websites for their films before DVXuser, but they were hidden ... i.e. you could not get to them from a main website page, they were not meta tagged, and often you had to have a password to log onto them ... such a site is for organizational or collaborative purposes only - a place to keep the latest version of the script, scheduling, clips for feedback from collaborators as clips are ready, etc.

way different than myspace and probably MORE info than you would wnt to share with the general public anyway

Are there any restrictions on how short the credits can be? I'm having a hard time trimming down my entry enough.

Yo,

Actually, I think that the credits might have to be a certain length even though in the rules it says a 'maximum of 15 seconds of credits.' Maybe that's a typo. I think in All Hallow's Fest it had to have 10 secs minimum of credits.

I'm sure one of the fest mods will answer shortly.

I'd like this clarified as well. I've got time to spare and I thought I'd have some fun with the credits but was bummed to see a 15 second limit.

Rules say up to a maximum of 15 seconds of credits / DVXuser must be clearly acknowledged. which pretty much sums it up.

Before the "clearly acknowledge DVXuser" rule credits were sometimes only one frame long (since its the internet where you can pause and people were sometimes cramped for time) Whether 1 frame is now acceptable as clearly acknowleding DVXuser or not, only Barry S or Larry R can say.

So as short as you can make them and still acknowledge DVXuser would be the deal until one of those guys chimes in and says any different or clarifies further.

Last fest they were really adamant about 10 second credits, why drop it down to one frame now?

From Hallows Fest...
All films must be no longer than 5 (five) minutes total. The following format must be followed. Film Title (any format), body of film, 10 seconds of credits (which must clearly acknowledge dvxuser.com).
I know this is from the last fest but why keep changing credit lengths? Seems a bit confusing to do that. I remember reading that they didn't want one frame of credits anymore.

Yeah, I had a similiar question about that too from the last fest. and they (the mods.) were trying to get away from the 1 frame credits then. But only they can tell you for sure.

I didn't say it could be one frame. I said "in the past" and if that short was acceptible someone else would have to say so.

like I said, we'll see ... when Barry or Larry chime in ...

But were they really adamant about 10 seconds last fast ... I mean did they force people to have 10 seconds of credits even if they were a crew of one and had one actor? Or are you basing adamant on that one line?

Enforcing a minimum length of credits beyond being able to read that it was made for DVXuser makes no sense to me. We're concerned about bandwidth and viewing time, so saying someone HAS to have a full 10 seconds of credits when it only takes 2 to say "Made for DVXuser Love Fest" seems like an edict from Bizarro world. But wiser men than I craft these rules. So maybe they want longer credits to establish that the filmmaker has copyright or something ... dunno ...

But what the rules say for ...

THIS fest is MAXIMUM. No MINIMUM beyond clearly acknowledging DVXuser. I bet you a nickle to a ginger cookie that Barry_S meant a maximum of 10 seconds for last fest. Not 10 seconds exactly. Unless people with shorter credits have stories to tell about getting their film rejected and Barry Saying "no no no, you must add 3 seconds of credits"

BUT, WHILE ......

the language of the rules this fest seem clear, and I know where the rules are coming from - credit the fest and don't go overboard in length - I gaurantee you not one mod has ever complained about credits being too short, but they go on and on about "Geez can you believe 45 seconds of credits for a 5 minute movie!"

STILL ... if there is some vaguery, either real or imagined ... Barry S or Larry R are th final words so for all this preamble, if you still need more than "MAXIMUM 15" and "clearly acknowledge DVXuser" then wait for it ... wait for it ...

I was referring to the post by Matty_g about the one frame deal.

And yes, in my experience.... they were pretty adamant about the new 10 second rule. A few entries fell a little short but not many. Probably the one man team entries.

EDIT: I'm not saying that they HAD to be 10 seconds long, just that they seemed to want to get away from the "flash" of credits at the end.

I'm sure they'll set us all straight soon. Myself included.

Mike
