Is this the s35 sony that is rumored?

I don't think it is meant to compete with the AGF100. I think it is anticipating a big brother offering from Panasonic. It is clear to me that S35 will become the defacto offering in much the same way ENG was the big brother of HVX200's and the like...

I would disagree. Nxcam is clearly the prosumer cams that are in competition with avccam.

You could be right, but I suppose the price point will tell us what we need to know on that front. What's for certain is that if it does come in at the price point of the panasonic, I would definitely favor it for it's larger sensor. I don't see how Panasonic could not still respond to that challenge with a larger sensor. That would happen in my estimation just about the time this camera is suppose to come to market.

I also think Sony is thinking about Canon right now, just as much as Panasonic. The middle of 2011 would be about right for that challenge as well.

In any case the S35 offerings have created an expectation of what the real next big step is, and sometimes that is just enough to pre-empt an investment in a new offering such as what we have right now from Panasonic.

I can already see Barry jumping into this conversation saying "get what you need right now, so that you can work on what you need for today, and let the future take care of itself." :-)

I personally want compatibility with my Canon's from a mulitcam point of view, and this makes more sense to me in terms of crop factor.

Ill get whats more affordable. But af100 will be out earlier . The size difference of the sensor hardly matters at this size

It all boils down to image quality and price.
Is a slightly cleaner image or feature worth the extra $$ or can you do without it?

"My sensor is bigger than your sensor!"

Playground intelligence right there. Just because a sensor Is slightly larger isn't a good reason to go all batty. If you want to wait for a cam that was just announced, and doesn't even have a price tag or a feature list or anything, go for it.

Panasonic has a record of being first to market, with excellent quality for the money. If that isn't good enough for you, that's fine!

I have heard that Sony will have 4-35mm cameras in this line up. They will let us know more today. Panasonic, Red, Sony, Canon, nice to have choices to fit the job and business. NAB 2011 will be an interesting walk through, just hope I can make it till then with my current gear.

Not F3, definitely the af100 competition. Nex10 upgrade for pro market. We'll see. If it is only a modest price increase from the nex10 and includes 24p it could be interesting. I'm in wait and see mode. If I needed and could afford a camera right now, I think the af100 would be more than good enough and would have no regrets. I'm hoping to be in a position to get something in mid 2011, and there should be wild competition by then. Maybe canon will pull another hv20, and have something really cool in a consumer cam. Mirrorless body and ef adaptor? People talk about protecting the still market, but they know that in the convergence market there are those that value video over stills, and are happy to take that money. 18megapixel can still be an advertised selling point while olpf and processing is optimized for 1080p output.

As far as I know Panasonic must expect big surprises concerning this camera and few other upcoming models from Sony.
They'll have abilities that'll be unreachable by AF100. And some resolutionary features.
Interesting is that Sony managment position on many key things is not common for Japan companies.
So, I think if all'll go as planned AF100 won't be competitor for this camera and it'll slide to cheaper niche.

NAB 2030 will be a killer one, that's for shure!!! meanwhile we are going to make some movies and other little stuff with our Panasonic equipement. Then, perhaps, we'll make the money to buy things from that NAB.

I think you guys are forgetting two words: Scarlet S35.

RED won't be insane enough not to come out with it next year.

It will make all other cameras dated overnight.

5K + RAW + HDR = unbeatable.

If they actually can keep a basic Scarlet S35 under 10K they might even hurt the "upper" buyers of the AF-100, who will use an external recorder, more expensive lenses, etc.

But their main target will be this new Sony S35 camera.
