News/Updates

8/10/09: Finished working draft of screenplay with Patrick Sweeney.

8/17/09: Principal Photography is set for September 19th and 20th (still need location)

8/21/09: Location in S.J. locked - Chili Rellenos for Craft Services - LOCKED! :p

9/19/09: Principal photography DAY 1 - Big success!

9/20/09: Principal photography DAY 2 - Another super day. First time working with children
actors. They didn't seem like kids...hmmm. I must be a kid still.

10/04/09: Finished rough cut of edit. It's more clear where pickup shots are needed and where VFX
will be placed. Also spent a little time on the score today roughing ideas out on acoustic guitar and working
on lyric translation.

10/22/09: Choir came over to my home studio to record their parts for the soundtrack.
I've wrote some pretty creepy stuff. My wife gets spooked every time I play it
BwaaaHaaHaaa ;-)

10/24/09: More pick up shots for the special effects plates.

10/29/09: 9pm, the evening before the morning of festival deadline. We're not going to make it in time.
We were delayed by some a humanitarian project that took precedence over this festival.
I would rather miss the deadline then submit an incomplete project. I have to shift back into work
mode for next week and then will complete the film and post it at its new target date of Black Friday,
Nov 27, 2009. It will be worth the wait :)

11/07/09: Readdressing soundtrack and tweaking on it since I have extra time.

11/12/09: Doing some psychoacoustic research experiments in my laboratory. :)

11/24/09: Soundtrack is finally complete.

11/25/09: Color correcting and grading.

HERE IS A SCREEN GRAB FROM THE ACTUAL FILM
Actress: Ann Scott

SOUNDTRACK:
One of my favorite parts of filmmaking is composing and sound design.
I actually start writing the soundtrack while shooting in my head each day.
I'll post details on my process in this section.

a) I've got an outline melody written for the film. It came to me as I was
in preproduction and filming. It's very dark ancient tune.

Oct 23: The soundtrack I'm working on requires lots of voices.
The choir came over and recorded their parts. Was fantastic! Did some
mixing on the 24th. More details about the choir/sopranos to come soon..

Yeah, Ouija Boards scare me too. I like doing films about things that effect me on a deep level, so this one is going to really take me there. :)

Looks like this will be sufficiently creepy. I am always wary of ouija boards, too. I'm interested to see what kind of monster it will conjure up.

Thanks Rodney, glad to be here in good company.

Thanks Michael, fond memories of Ouij? That's a new one to me :)

Welcome to the fest & DVXuser! You're going to love it here....but watchout for that Rodney character...he's trouble.

Looking forward to seeing "Invocation"...and yes, I'm dying to know the future. What camera will you be using?

Hi Zazacast,
I'll be using the HVX200/M2. I also wanted to say THANKS for your slider thread (or shold I say novel - it's so long now) I got through about half the pages the other night. Great info - thanks for sharing! ;-)

Are you a musician as well? I saw that bass pic on your site.

See, a writer-director-composer, credit!

Now that's a USP in itself!

Can't wait to see this one Tommy.

Thanks Rusty!!
I love your logo by the way. You are one impressive filmmaker in my book!

BTW Are you submitting a film to the Monsterfest??

Hey, Tommy. I totally missed your thread until I saw you in mine. Glad you decided to get in one of these. They can be very helpful and informative. It can be a great learning experience. Good luck and have fun!

I try to keep the important information on the ZazaSlider updated on the first post, so people don't have to hunt all around...it is getting to be a BIG thread. Thanks for checking it out & I hope you build one, you'll love it.

Yes, I'm a musician (seems like there are a bunch of us on here)... that was a whole different life. 3 albums, 6 years touring, sex, drugs & rock n' roll....takes a lot out of you! Retrospect Records will be re-releasing the albums on CD as soon as I can get the contracts straightened out.

ZAZACast LOLOLOL!!!
That was great, Deep Purple on steroids. I love over the top rock!

I'll have to dig up some of my old stuff to share. A life of a crazy musician seems like such a natural transition over to a filmmaker. That must be it.
You have found a kindred soul!

ZazaCast! I found a music clip. This is a video of me playing a guitar solo live in the studio.

BMW motors saw it and wanted to add it to their Extreme Sports campaign.

Guitar playing as a sport?? WTF

Watch it here

HA! I love it! Makes me really miss the days gone by. Glad you're here and looking forward to your film. (hope there's some shreaded guitar in the soundtrack)

Cheers!
