Interesting rumor...

yes, good idea. let's switch this thread to bookkeeping. i'll start by debiting your user account $1,000. who's next?

What is the relationship between the 'idea" of the meaning of a word, and it's behavioural use? What is the 'collective' to which you refer?
very good point. i'd say it varies, and in this case it's probably this board. i don't think a few film puritans are likely to change the meaning of the word film for the rest of us even if they and their friends hav a fcuked up idea of language. the other way around is more likely. :-)

You just finished delivering a contradictionary lecture on how meaning is dependent on subject
you've missed the point completely. i never said that. i said that the definition changes all the time depending on how people use it. wikipedia is not an authority, it's more than any other source of knowledge the result of a collective consciousness.

I wonder what people will be naming things when the "rumor" of this thread becomes a "reality"? Will cats and dogs be living together?

No, wikipedia is not an authority, because the content is vetted by anyone who decides to participate, not authorised by people who have spent decades in a field of expertise. For instance, the entry on phenomenology in the Britannica was originally written by Edmund Husserl (the formulator) and Martin Heidegger (the most outstanding student). That's serious expertise. Wikipedia is the intellectual equivalent of reading a gossip magazine. It is also not a 'consciousness', whatever that means.

Knowledge is tough to come by. Intellectual knowledge requires effort. It doesn't come from wikipedia. It comes from close reading of serious academic writing that has been vetted by experts in the same field. You're an expert on these boards. You've helped many people here. Your knowledge didn't come easy, I'm guessing, and it didn't come from wikipedia.

What i meant was that at least in this case it's *good* that wikipedia is not an authority. If i want to know cutting edge scientific knowledge it's probably not the best place, but for more or less common knowledge it's outstanding. Besides it's a great place to find where the real stuff can be found since the articles are thoroughly referenced. I'm a med student btw and like most of us i use it all the time, as do doctors. Just remember that it's not an authority and that you can't trust it without further research and you'll be fine. :-)

Dang dude...I had to look twice. But there it is...the "picture" of a motion picture camera. Ok...now I want in.

Well it's going to be really interesting to see what it can do with twice the processing power of the MKII. If it has similar noise figures to the MKII and is a 1.6x crop it's going to be amazing in low light.

what is the price range of the 7D? I'm not up to speed on Canon prices. I just own a Canon SD880 pocket camera. Which takes great pictures by the way.

looks to be somewhere between $1500 and $2000 for the body, it's aimed directly at the D300s market.

Canonrumor just quoted a source at $1699. I guess they want to undercut the D300s (at $1799).

I'll be curious to find out how the 18MP perform in low light. I think the pixels may be too small to be comparable to 5Dm2 or even D300s, but maybe they can make up for it with the 2 Digic 4 chips. Will also be interesting to see if they support 24p and manual exposure, and how they handle jello.
