From your lips to gods ear. I admire your steadfastness

Regardless what Nikon releases, look at what we have:
A 720p digital movie camera with interchangable Nikon lenses and, due to the hard work and generosity of the people on this site, an almost manual movie camera.
Who wants to advertise that they can use Nikon lenses? RED, for one.
Who wants depth of field? Everyone. Who can get depth of field out of a US$1000 camcorder (or 2 or 3)? No one. Who wants overexposure on everything lighter than off-white? No one. What do US$1000 camcorders give you? Does the D90 have quality audio? No. But if you're serious, audio should always be separate, except in very rare, specific instances. Are the optics on a Panasonic prosumer camcorder as good as the D90? No. Canon? No. Is the D90 cheaper than the Canon 5D mk II? Yes. Considerably. Add a modest rig from Redrock, and you could buy the Canon body-only.
The camera David Lynch used to make Inland Empire, the PD150, is inferior to the D90-with-a-rig and ext. audio.
What the D90 is capable of, especially with the amazing generosity of the people who came up with the work-arounds found on this site, is enough. The camera can never do it all for us. Choices had to be made to accomodate the Arriflex 35, because it couldn't do everything (though it was pretty close). For those who are starting out experimenting with motion images, making short films, etc.: the D90 does enough and has enough advantages that it will allow a vision to be realised with a good, solid image. And it's CHEAP!

it's enough if you want to replicate the look of super 8 but not even close to 35mm.
...anything that isn't a match for the MKII would also be a failure.
...the D90 is an excellent still camera to this day (the gh1 isn´t)
I have to take exception to this statement. I don't have a D90 (I've got D300s), but I've also got G1s and a GH1 and I get some very, very good quality images from these cameras, even with the kit lenses. I find that I'll use the G1s for 90% of my shooting over the D300s due to the weight and the articulated LCD. The RAW files have a tremendous amount of latitude. Plus, you can use so much other glass on the bodies.
I have plenty of examples on my website for those curious about the IQ quality.
Cheers,
wow!!! you must have at least 5 cameras around your neck:shocked:
