Hyperdeck Shuttle 2.0 - Another External Recorder Option

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for your feedback.

We're currently working on implementing a very popular compression format that everyone has been requesting and that's very close to being done. We should be able to support TC as well and I'll have the guys look into this as a priority.

Yes, pleeeeease let it be Cineform - that would make everyone a happy camper.

It will be probably ProRes, which is not as good as CF and mainly- to closed.
I would 10x prefer CF, but all FCP people rather want to see ProRes.

++1. I've compared them directly using the files from Vortex media and the cineform is less noisy (plus I like to use First Light!)

ProRes goes only about 10% above target bitrate and also has strict max bitrate limit, which is probably about 250Mbits. For difficult source this is not enough to keep something like HDCAM-SR quality.
CF does not have such a problem as it's it's real VBR based and can go with bitrate upt to 500Mbits (or more) if needed. There is also special (not in GUI) near-lossless mode for very demanding people.

FirstLight non-decstructive color correction is amazing and works in any NLE!

You're all right. I forgot to mention how amazing is working with first light.
I think it works better with FCPX than PP.

I usually work on PP5.5 and DaVinci, but I've been testing First light and FCPX on my last job and I've been quite impressed.
I applied a first light in CF then the secondaries in FCPX. I saved a lot of time since I skipped the usual steps (i.e. export from PP+import in DaVinci+export from DV+import in PP for final editing)

Wonder why we don't see more recorders encode in Cineform (in fact, only Cinedeck does I believe)???

Add very useful and fast RED, DPX, TIFF to CF conversion tools and you have nice package for small money, including 3D support.
CF is also coming soon as a capture target to one of the most reliable capture cards, so all looks good :)

All because of Apple and FCP, but this is going to history now- at leas this is my hope.
I think there will be new recorders with CF support- we know BM has licensed it, so I hope it will come soon and also to BM capture cards as a capture target.
AJA already supports capture to CF on MAC, including 3D.
