Hyperdeck Shuttle 2.0 - Another External Recorder Option

It's a QuickTime thing. If you google QuickTime gamma shift you will see how Apple has refused to fix this problem that has existed for years in QuickTime 7.x. I'm using DNxHD working in Premiere Pro (after moving away from FCP) and Resolve without issue. Did it on a Mac and now on Windows and of course DNxHD works in it's native environment on AVID.

I'm not worried about Quicktime player, but is there any clipping going on in the format itself once you drop in nle? (for any of the shuttle formats)

I record to the KiPro Mini in ProRes HQ. Drag and drop to FC7 and send to Color for grading. In the setup I have to disable clipping and all is fine.

Will Premiere read DNxHD files directly?

On PC I can open the uncompressed 10-bit QT and ProRes QT files in CS6 Premiere or AE - but I can't open DNX QT or AVID DNX MXF.

On MAC using FCP, same story but with the Avid DNX MXF files they are greyed out when I open the "file import" window.

Am I missing something to allow importing DNX QT and DNX MXF ??

Are you importing the files through Premiere or doing a drag and drop? You should be able to see and use the QT DNxHD on PC via Prem Pro.

Although there are 3rd party plugins available for AVID's MXF import.

On PC when I drag the DVX QT file to Premiere, or through file import it starts the import and says "codec missing or unavailable" - Looks like I'm missing a codec there. If I open it with Quicktime its completely black and the info box seems to show the right stuff ie. dnxhd 709 1920x1080, etc... Hey I just found the dnx codec here http://www.avid.com/US/industries/workflow/DNxHD-Codec and will give it a try.

As for opening Avid DNX MXF on anything other than Avid - I probably have no reason to try that in Premiere, AE, FCP, etc...

Thanks for your help Andrew.
