Hvx200a

On set doing commercials or promo videos etc, people take advantage of the instant 'to speed' of the camera, so if you're doing multiple takes of someone, there's not actually the time to dig down to delete the clip.

Not trying to derail the thread but on this one, use the marker assigned to a user button and then when you get a break, you know which one is the best one, and you can mark the best two takes if you want and delete the other 20. ;-)

Best,

Jan

60p is ok..... but the P2-card can handle much more, so I wonder how hard it would be to speed up to, let's say: 70p, 80p

This would make the HVX a high-speed camera and no tape-based camera in this price range could easily match this up... I'd like to use it for super-slo-mo

Besides, I'd whish the focus-assistant may be used on external screens also... Screen data may be output, so it's certainly just a matter of software.... I'd like to use portable 8" SD-control monitors...

And finally display data for remaining minutes of battery-power - beside the battery symbol.

This would require an entire revision of the DVCPRO HD codec, so don't hold your breath for this one.

Your other ideas are interesting though.

Thanks,

Only very nice when you are right-eyed !!!!!

Timur just reminded me of the other thing I posted once before, but really really want -- let the LCD and the VF display different things. So the LCD could show a full-frame Focus Assist, while the VF displays the regular frame. That way you could keep an eye on your overall composition, while being able to monitor focus at pixel-accurate level...

I'm not right-eyed, but I still think it'd be very nice. The reason is, if you're using a focus puller (aka 1st AC), they're likely going to be using the LCD panel because they're standing by the side of the camera with the follow focus. So that's the one that needs to see the focus assist detail. The camera operator, on the other hand, will be using the viewfinder.

And the viewfinder is configurable for left-eye-dominant or right-eye-dominant; you just have to pull the rubber eyecup off and turn it around...

Jan, hi there,

what is the chances that PAL land can get 24p? Just so that I know if I should laugh or cry...

thanks for your time,
derrick

Jan is a USA employee, governing the HVX in America and only America. She has no involvement with any PAL territory. You'd be better off asking your local Panasonic representative about that and nagging them to try to include it.

Unfortunatelly, Barry, no Pal representative as such active presence over here than Jan. Since she's the product manager of the HVX200 line of cameras in the USA (The biggest market, i presume), her input obviously has influence on the development of the next camera- and we PAL users sure would like to be listened also.

I remember Panasonic NZ was also quite active over here, and a fellow Panasonic Belgium employee came over once to annouce the P2CMS.

So we are using this thread also to voice our opinions...

I believe NTSC users would also like to be able to shoot 25p material
to export to PAL markets...

(The HPX is ntsc/PAL, so it certainly shouldn't be much of an engineering barrier...)

By the way, your suggestions where excelent.

Jan, can the Mini DV drive, in theory, record a 25mb AVCHD signal? Or would it need a new processor in camera to allow this? Would this influence much price?

I'd kill for:
  • an adjustable B/W CRT viewfinder.

I'd like to see:
  • Negative gain
  • DVC50 on tape
  • Better LCD screen
  • Upgraded ccd's if monetarily possible
  • Scene info in metadata
  • 6pin FW or some way to keep the 4 pin cable from coming loose.

In no particular order - here are the suggestions made so far in this thread (except for larger CCDs and higher resolution) Just thought it would be good to see them all in one place.

1. Option to flip the image at the DSP (not just on the LCD)

2. Focus Assist similar to that on the HPX

3. Larger & Higher resolution LCD Screen

4. Ability to rack focus with the remote from one focus number to another at a variable speed.

5. Add one more ND Filter that is darker.

6. Add the frame rate to the display

7. White Balance settings and readings in degrees kelvin.

8. The ability to manually 'dial in' white balance in degrees kelvin.

9. 6 PIN FireWire port as opposed to the fragile 4 PIN

10. The ability to input more than 2 audio sources. (either 4 XLR inputs or 2 XLRs with 2 additional phonos)

11. Focus readings in Feet and Inches

12. Ability to save ALL camera setup and scene file information on the SD card in 1 file.

13. Add the scene file settings and User file settings to the metadata.

14. In camera Waveform monitor or Histogram

15. Ability to move the focus assist box into different quadrants on the LCD

16. Ability to lock the focus ring

17. Screen grabs to SD Card

18. PN recording for 1080P mode

19. SD card recording of proxy footage.

20. NTSC and PAL compatible

21. Ability to choose how HD is displayed on SD output: Squeeze 16:9 into 4:3, Crop 16:9 into 4:3, letterbox 16:9 into 4:3

22. Markers for various aspect ratios on the LCD

23. All possible variable frame rates.

24. HDMI output

25. A software keyboard so metadata can be changed in camera.

26. Delete Last Clip function assignable to a user button.

27. Ability to playback any clip and auto switch to the appropriate mode.

28. Option to make the 'focus assist' button be a toggle, so it won't time out on its own.

29. Ability to trim a clip in camera.

30. Ability to manually set the duration of the Loop Record Buffer.

31. Noise reduction features like -3db & -6db settings.

32. Ability to have the LCD and EVF display different things, so the LCD could show a full frame Focus Assist while the EVF displays the regular frame.

33. Interchangeable lens options.

34. Sturdier Battery tabs

That covers just about everything for me, apart from.....

A 'Select All' in thumbnail view so I can delete all clips in one go rather than having to select/delete each and every clip individually which could be 20,30,40+ a real PITA

Indy....

A software keyboard so we can change metadata in-camera. Or, if that's too much to ask, some way to at least change the Scene No. and Take No. in-camera.

Thats just gotta be a MUST! screwing around with SD cards/readers/computers between takes is just crazy.

Although I love P2cms it does need to be.... er, looked at!

Indy.....

Sorry that was slightly misleading what I meant was in a situation where I have a few clips I need to keep out of say 40 I'd need to manually select the ones I didn't want to keep to delete them.... If I had a 'Select All' then i could deselect the couple that I didn't want to delete and delete the rest.

Also formatting a card screws around with the filenames and time-code(?)

Indy....

Gotcha - that makes sense.
Though how long would it be before people complained about that feature because they accidently deleted everything by mistake :)

I can see how 'select all' woudl be helpful - but if a 'delete last take' feature were added (that was quick and easy to access) wouldn't that take care of it for you? As long as you used it, you shouldn't find yourself in a situation where you have 40 clips that need to be deleted.

But - in the end - the more options the better... I can see the usefulness of it.

29. Ability to trim a clip in camera.

I was thinking of a split clip feature, you play the clip you want to trim, stop where you want to split it, and have the HVX split the clip into 2 clips. Then depending whether you want to get rid of the front half or the rear half, delete one or the other. This would be a simple "trim" feature.
