Hvx200a

So Jan which of the ideas people came up with do you think are realistic for an upgraded/updated HVX200?????????

Things that are software based have a better shot but even here it depends on how deep the change is in the boards. AVC-Intra, no chance, sorry.

I had one yesterday that I don't know if we can do, but I liked it, it was a reload button for the metadata, you know assign it to a user button. I am sending that one along. I am really keen on MetaData these days and anyone shooting P2 should really start to thing about it and how to use it to advantage.

Keep the good ideas coming.

Best,

Jan

A software keyboard so we can change metadata in-camera. Or, if that's too much to ask, some way to at least change the Scene No. and Take No. in-camera.

Unlocking the "hidden" frame rates -- I mean, c'mon, how hard is that? ;) Especially with Sony's expected entry offering all frame rates from 1 to 60, it'd be advantageous to the HVX to show that it already supports every even frame rate from 2 to 60.

Delete-Last-Clip function assignable to a user button. Make it ask for confirmation ("are you sure?") but that'd be quite handy to have. Very handy.

Better/sharper/contrastier LCD panel.

For The Love Of Pete, let's get it so it can play back any clip and auto-switch to the appropriate mode, so there's no more clips-in-red.

Oooh, speaking of red, please please please please please please please please put the "focus in red" feature on the LCD. This might be the single best upgrade you could add. Having the magnified focus assist combined with the focus in red would probably silence nearly all complaints about the LCD.

Flip function *at the recording level*, not at the LCD level. Actually rotate the image 180 degrees at the DSP, so it shows up in the LCD as flipped and gets recorded as flipped.

An option to make the "focus assist" button be a toggle (so it won't time out on its own).

The software waveform/vectorscope feature of the P2 Gear. At the very least, the waveform...

The ability to trim a clip in-camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please please please please please please please. Text-memo subclipping woud be so helpful, and the functionality already exists in the other cameras so it's not even like it's new technology to develop...

The ability to manually set the duration of the Loop Record buffer. This would be so handy I can't even begin to describe it. If we can't get text-memo-subclipping, this is the next best thing. Let me set the camera in loop record mode, but tell the system that I want the recording buffer to not take up all the card space, but maybe just one minute, or three minutes, etc. This would be very useful. Especially now that we're getting larger cards.

1080/24pN mode. Wouldn't matter much to me, but it would silence much griping about "is it or isn't it 1080/24p".

Noise reduction features, like a -3dB and -6dB gain setting!!!!!!!

I think these are all pretty much software-level changes, not necessitating any change to hardware (other than my request for a better LCD panel).

remote controlling focus assist and focus in red

remote controlling focus assist and focus in red

Wow, Barry saying a lot of please's. Better listen to him, pana:happy:

In addition to Barry's: 'Oooh, speaking of red, please please please please please please please please put the "focus in red" feature on the LCD. This might be the single best upgrade you could add. Having the magnified focus assist combined with the focus in red would probably silence nearly all complaints about the LCD.'

-I'd really like to be able to switch the focus assist (and the desirable focus in red) on and off via remote. It would be nice to have my hands on focus and zoom with one hand, and to dial these assists in and out with the other. P-p-p-p-lllleeazzzze.

(speaking of red, just put in a red camera in the hvx housing at the same price, thanx)

Although a hardware change (albeit small), what about changing the 4 pin Firewire socket for a 6 pin one?

And HDMI output? Hardware, true, but possibly feasible at not too much extra cost?

software based.....
what this means?????????? that i don't have to change my camera in the future but that i will need only of a sd memory card to upgrade/update it?:bath:

I agree with the last clip sentiment. Because of the depth it's placed within the menus (and of course a different camera mode too), it's not a feature I find myself using while shooting. On set doing commercials or promo videos etc, people take advantage of the instant 'to speed' of the camera, so if you're doing multiple takes of someone, there's not actually the time to dig down to delete the clip.

If you're transferring footage off to disk, unless you've got camera notes with you it's tricky to know which the good takes were, so everything gets copied off anyway.

an instant delete clip function assigned to a user button would solve all this.

Yeah. So if they decide to add the Red Focus Assist function..and all the other stoftware related things...then that would be a huuuuuuge update to put on the SD card...but well worth it. Id go out and buy a 2GB SD card right now if all those were in one giant update.

Regarding Barry's software keyboard idea...instead of that because I know i'd go crazy going through a keyboard with the little arrows on the camera...have the camera able to hook up to a PDA device perhaps through the firewire or USB port and you can just change it on the PDA on one of their solid keyboard where you just click away the metadata then just upload to the camera...or have software for the PDA that can save to an SD card and put right into the camera. No bulky laptop needed.

Ok...so who is the official scribe for the user group?

Maybe the list should be divided into two:

1. ideas for future hardware

2. ideas that can potentially be implemented on the current HVX200 platform via software updates.

Then we can start priortizing our wish list(s) for Jan.

Any takers?

Ok...so let me modify the suggestion based on the storm of ideas:

(I guess this suggestion is directed to Jarred and Jan)

Instead of a DVXuser scribe collecting and maintaining the lists, maybe Jan you can assign one of your marketing folks to organize this.

The group is fairly concentrated and for sure willing to offer up their suggestions.

Not bad for a qualified focus group.

The software waveform/vectorscope feature of the P2 Gear. At the very least, the waveform...

YES YES YES, this would be the single best thing they could add in my view. I have always wanted a waveform/vector on the LCD. the marker helps out, but this would be rad.

I was also thinking this week, while shooting something sans adapter, I wouldn't mind assignable followfocus points in camera. Like a button to set one focus point and then another, like stops on a follow focus.

It will never happen, but would be pretty nice.

Delete all unmarked clips

Delete all unmarked clips

having a 'delete all unmarked clips' option in the menu would speed up my workflow. I hate having to manually select all unmarked clips for deletion especially when I'm in a stressfull situation where a lot is happening. seems like a very simple firmware fix.

Built in Wave form, and a 180 Flip at the DSP would be AMAZING. Also a Delete last take user assginable button.

Though i admit, i'd take the "waveform" over the 180 flip. having a true way of measuring exposure is more important. also, and this is stretching, maybe having the LCD or Viewfinder display, the waveform, a focus assist box and all the critical info, leaving the other viewing device showing the whole picture with minimal distractions.

AND! -6db gain would be GREAT.

And seriously guys, sorry but we aint gonna get 1/2" chips..... that would make he HVX cost 9,000$ At least.

i would pay that price for a "1/2 inch 3 CCD system" !!!!!! and the gap with the HPX would still be there so no competion to the other pana products.

Timur just reminded me of the other thing I posted once before, but really really want -- let the LCD and the VF display different things. So the LCD could show a full-frame Focus Assist, while the VF displays the regular frame. That way you could keep an eye on your overall composition, while being able to monitor focus at pixel-accurate level...

I just want interchangeble lens options. Period.

No fancy 35mm adapaters, just the option to throw on some Killer len's

That's a good one Barry! I like that alot.

...or have it be able to go vice versa...some might prefer shooting with the LCD..plus isn't the VF a bit sharper than the LCD? so perhaps focus assist would be better in the VF.

Good idea though..that would definitely help out alot.
