Hvx200a

Luis forgot the all in focus turns red feature.

Actually I thought that was #2
"Focus Assist similar to that on the HPX"

Is that not how the HPX's focus assist works?
I thought that's what I understood from other peoples posts, but I wasn't sure as I haven't used the HPX yet.
If that's not it, then yes - most definitely we need to add it to the list.

That's how the focus assist works on the JVC HD100 (except it's blue, not red) - and I've always found that to be, by far, the most useful focus assist out there.

> but if a 'delete last take' feature were added (that was quick and easy to access) >wouldn't that take care of it for you?

Not really as there are situations more often than not where I simply can't tell using the view finder/LCD if a scene/shot is what I need. Most of my stuff is run and gun so need to keep shooting until P2 is full. finding the time to edit after each clip is a no go for me most of the time. I find it easier to dump everything off then edit on my MBP. Obviously there are shots I do delete straight away and the feature would be a big plus but I'd still like a 'Select All'.

Horses for courses I guess! ;)

Indy.....

I was thinking of a split clip feature, you play the clip you want to trim, stop where you want to split it, and have the HVX split the clip into 2 clips. Then depending whether you want to get rid of the front half or the rear half, delete one or the other. This would be a simple "trim" feature.

That's basically what the bigger P2 cameras offer (HPX2000, etc). You use the "text memo" function to set the "in" and "out" points, and then you can tell it to extract the portion between two text memos and make a new clip from that. The code already exists, so why not implement in in the HVX200a?

No, the HPX's focus assist feature is a histogram-type feature. So we'd want the focus-in-red on the HVX200a, and also the option of using the HPX or HVX type of focus assist (and, most especially, the ability to combine them as desired).

A better DSP for better gradients reproduction, lower video noise, and a better LCD would make me very very very happy.

thanks Jan

I'd like to see an AVC-HD chip in there with 24 megabits, for longform recording.

While we're at it, if the chip was in there, a feature that would "build proxies" so we could have the MPEG proxies would be great.

I'd also like to see a firmware change so that formatting the P2 card wouldn't erase the volume name. I can name my cards on Windows, and format them on Windows and the name stays the same. But when formatting on the HVX, the name disappears -- can we get that changed?

Some people have expressed an interest in a fully black & white mode in-camera; maybe make Chroma Level -8 = b&w?

Fix the firewire sync so that it never loses a frame when you swap modes (CAM<->MCR) and never loses a frame when turning the power off/on.

Allow us to disable the on-board microphone.

Allow us to record the audio when shooting offspeed anyway -- at least as an option. Right now if you over/undercrank, no audio gets recorded at all. I'd still like the option to record it, even if it won't be useful in normal circumstances.

Add firewire output of 24pN/30pN!

Enable/add HD output from firewire input.

Lower noise would be great -- add a -3dB and/or -6dB option please.

How about allowing the viewfinder to display your live image, but the ability to display waveform, vectorscope or histogram on the lcd!

that would be useful and probably only a software based update!

i think also, rearragning the LCD Viewfinder positions.

move the "image part of the" lcd to the top, and eliminate the Black bar on top, and addd it to the bottom, this way Focus assist can stay on all the time, in the now bigger black bar on the bottom along with all the critical data leaving your monitoring unaffected save a small bit in the corner, or if it were reallllllly coo, make the Focus assist part, stretch alll the way across the screen so i we can see more of the frame ot judge focus by.

Another focus assist option would be a user button that made it jump to enlarge 5 different parts of the picture. the center, the upper right 1/3 mark, the lower right 1/3 mark, etc.... this way when composing a two shot i can check to see if the faces are focuse without having to move the camera. this is critical during a take when i really have no idea unti lt he take is over as icant reframe mid shot. especially with 35 adpaters and long lens work.

Having the focus assist be closer to the JVC's would probably be the one thing that would make me consider selling my HVX200 to get the A. the bigger window is nice, but it just hasn't been accurate enough.

"Add firewire output of 24pN/30pN!
Enable/add HD output from firewire input."

those would be great especially when using software like On Location...

And seriously guys, sorry but we aint gonna get 1/2" chips..... that would make he HVX cost 9,000$ At least.
Why? Rumor has it that the Sony XDCAM EX will cost $6,000. Now if Panasonic could only do it with interchangeable lenses. And something like AVC High 4:4:4 Intra Profile (up to 14 bits) or a native implementation of Reel-Stream's Hydra would be nice, too. Of course, Jan's obviously said no to AVC Intra as a software upgrade to the HVX200, but I was thinking in terms of a next-gen HVX successor.

It'd be exceptional to have a great deal of these things worked into an A model. Gotta wonder when we'll see one hit the streets.

It already here. HPX2000......

I mean, interchangeable lenses, > 8-bit, 4:4:4, and under $10,000 (preferably not much more than the HVX) -- something to eventually replace the HVX in Panasonic's lineup. The HPX2000 meets only one those requirements (and it's obviously higher up the product line). The HVX plus Hydra already meets two or possibly three. Inclusion of the Hydra or its equivalent in the design and manufacture of a camera should cost considerably less than $3,500. Progressive half-inch sensors will be included in the XDCAM EX (although if they're CMOS chips with a rolling shutter, they'll be needlessly hobbled). The only question is, can all this be done with an interchangeable lens?
