GH5 How interested are you in a GH6 anymore?

.

I kind of like your shot on the dance floor. The point of getting a crowd of dancers like that is to see the dancers and family having fun together. If you want to isolate the bride and groom more get closer, zoom in or swap to a tighter lens. Getting a wider shot like that of a large group and wanting some dramatic DOF may be a bit complex to achieve.

Yes but this is still the 50 1.2. A 24 1.4 with this wide a frame, and i feel like you get everything in focus. Slight softening outside the focal plane. Maybe the deep background is blurred. But it doesn't feel like I can achieve selective focus.

I'm happy with this shot. The larger issue is that every extra in it is a liability. If someone looks bored or pissy (which happens all the time), they totally spoil the mood. That's the main reason why I feel like its safer just to blur them. You can still see there's a crowd, so they form a good backdrop. But there's no way they can scuttle the shot.

Something similar happens shooting for my auction house client. Covering events there, we typically won't be allowed to show patrons or artwork in the edited material. So if I can just blur them with DOF, then you still get a sense of something being in the background, and they can use the shot without hiring an animator to manually blur those elements

Why don’t they release the specs of the camera? They had 5 years to develop it should be at the stage of final testing and tooling up to mass produce it. I get the feeling that they only started developing it recently and are trying to buy themselves time. Like a student cramming for an exam.

Maybe. Seems like there's a lot of that lately. The Mavic 3 buyers are talking about how unfinished the product feels. Then there's the well-established trend of releasing a camera with features that you only supply the firmware for 1 or 2 years after launch

Much like A7IV had the lens breathing controlled only on Sony glass, the Samyang problem looks to be - wait for it! - a logic bomb. To paraphrase George Orwell, all E-mount lenses are equal but some are more equal than others.

Thinking about this more, I don't think this is true. Because I have 3 sony lenses (28-135, gm 24, gm 50) and the 50 has better AF than the other 2. Including, I'm not sure but I think, the ability to stay locked on to a touch tracking target.

I would guess the issue might be motor speed. If the motor is sluggish, then as the target moves out of focus, it loses contrast and the colors blur, possibly causing the camera to lose target lock. But the camera has an insane ability to detect eyes, even when the eyes are out of focus. Which might explain why my samyang lenses hold eye AF flawlessly but intermittently lose focus lock on objects

It's not that i don't believe the conspiracy theory. I just don't think it's the cause of this issue

Your latest client didn't approve...they said only the Venice will be considered.

Possibly 35mm film, too - if you have Kodak Portra 400.

My wedding clientele has no idea what cameras I use. (I mean, the studios do. Just not the couples)

But I've rubbed elbows with many photographers shooting a mix of digital and film, typically medium format

Announcing cameras early happens a lot...I think the GH5 also had a development announcement about 6 months before it started shipping.

Focus breathing within a reasonable distance change is not that fast in terms of the pulls (unless one goes from a near infinity to a closeup or vice versa). The elimination of the breathing requires a two-way communication between the lens and the camera, with the camera fully "knowing" the lens parameters. I.e., the camera needs to have the same information as chromatic and optical aberrations that are similarly corrected in camera for the less-than-perfect lenses. In this case, Sony knows where its own lenses tend to fail and manages to correct it. It's possible that their competitors' shortcomings can be corrected in post but there's no reason the modern era glass ought to be in the all-or-nothing category.

Im not talking about breathing. You said that samyangs could hold eye AF tracking but not touch focus tracking on random objects because of a logic bomb

It's amazing. There is some chatter about a GH6 and then immediately the thread parries to Sony cameras and weddings.

I agree with NorBro that it's too early for a rollout. Not because of lack of rumors but Panasonic only just apologized for the delay.

Trying to stay on topic.

Yeah, that's also a good point...they just said sorry not even a month ago (16th).

Likely would have not if it was ready this week.

To me, this is a NAB 2022 camera (April).

As someone mentioned, if you enter LUMIX Camera into YouTube’s search box, it returns several videos that will play on the 4th. No camera information for any of them. Could be the GH5 mkII or a new FF offering or….

That's interesting. YouTubers usually do that with new offerings and prepare their thoughts in advance to release a certain day after embargos expire.

However, it could apply to other information, like a FW update - or could just be about a completely different product like a new Panasonic smart fridge.

Although you did say 'LUMIX Camera' returns the hits...
