GH2 horizontal banding issue gone?

this is why I will not be the first in line to buy new gear. I will let the kinks get worked out first.
 
I just want this thread to help out those who bought earlier batch units. Hopefully Panasonic replaces theirs.
 
I used the same settings you used Stonebat.

So far it's much more clean than the GH1 has ever been.

I don't even see mud where my C setting hacked GH1 still sees mud with 45mbit files..
 
I must have gotten the same result. I see the banding but its much subdued. The banding moves from top to bottom as SS decreases. I boosted exposure in post-processing. Without the boost, I can barely see it. The video will be available past the midnight.

GH2
WE1C serial batch unit
24p Cinema
Cinema mode
3200 ISO
SS from 160 to 20
EV ranged from -3 to -1/2
 
Audio out of Dual Pre was pretty clean, but audio level 1 has some AGC. Also GH2's mic-in seems hot.

Audio level 0 on next firmware update would be nice...
 
It seems most here have WE1B or C. I purchased mine early March and was disappointed to find that it is WE1A. In retrospect, I should not have cancelled my 2-month old PD EPP order :( Now I'm worried that potentially significant fixes are missed. Hoping that these will be firmware, not hardware.
 
I want some BANDING!

I'm going to complain to Panasonic. I can't get any.

Damn being an early adopter.

Hey Mark, I'd really like to know if you see the banding on the WE1B if possible. I purchased mine from Kenmore a couple of weeks ago and its a 1B.
 
there are a number of ways to expose a scene. While playing with the GH2 last night I found that I could raise my ISO and stop the lens down and shadow detail will come up while the highlights are not blown although I see banding. I can also lower ISO and open the lens up and shadow detail goes down(pushed into black) while the highlights are not blown and I do not see banding.

Either way, these are conditions where the GH1 couldn't even begin to work. It would be banding city!

Interesting. What do you mean by pre-production model and true 24P HDMI output? Mine is WE0K bought in Dec 2010, PAL version. When shot on 24P setting with HDMI attached to monitor, the monitor always display 1080i 50hz.

The pre-production model outputted true 24p through HDMI once record had been hit. Panasonic crippled it to be wrapped in 50i (or 60.00i in NTSC) on the retail version.

Yeah, come on guys - someone step up to the plate here ... please list a set of repeatable steps that will reliably generate bands on a camera that is known to have this problem ... that the rest of us can then replicate those steps and post our findings.

I got mine yesterday. I have WE1C , in 3200 and under exposure, I got the big banding blue line in the upper part of the frame in some conditions.

I think it was with the EX tele, but I am not sure only with it, I will check tomorrow.

Compare to GH1 its like no banding at all...
 
Remember for testing to use shutter speeds over 1/30, as the blue band doesn't appear at 1/30th or below (the GH2 will allow a 1/25 shutter as well).
 
my camera's serial number starts with WE1C and I'm experiencing banding issue too.
It's noticeable enough to return the camera back to the dealer. I'm not sure if it's fixable by the firmware. Knowing Panasonic customer service , they most likely will not admit this defect.
Not willing to take this risk.
