C300: Help me spend $15,000

Making more money doesn’t mandatorily mean asking for higher rates from your existing clients. New gear can open new doors for better paid jobs from other or new clients. It can also improve your efficiency and bring you more work. In uncertain times I would be very careful with an investment on a credit base though.

Absolutely. So, you want to go in on a Sony Venice together? ;)

Many on DVXuser say things like, "Invest in yourself and not in equipment." These are stressful times we're living in and sometimes a well deserved break is best for company moral. Consider writing off the $15k as a company funded vacation to Brazil for cocaine and hookers.

You'll come back refreshed and ready to work harder than ever

how long do you think 15k will last for this kind of "self invest"?
I don't think you will be recovered and refreshed after a long weekend in Rio.

I was in Rio in 2017 shooting a film and I actually saw the cops shoot a guy on a motorcycle who was pulled over 10' from our van.
The cops also shot a 12 year old girl at an elementary school as a revenge move against a gang. Every place we worked there, we had
armed security, we saw numerous purse and phone snatchings on Copacabana Beach. I would NEVER go to Rio as a tourist, it was nuts
when I was there.

I'm with Jasse on this one. BelVG is the best web designer available with affordable rates and design skills that will greatly help your business. You really cannot go wrong with them.

Thought about starting a retirement account?
Trust me, it comes sooner than you think.

Smartest answer on this thread. I will agree and ask, forget cameras, what is your company's debt load? What do you owe in total on your business and personal credit cards, car payments, etc.? Debt is evil and so many people go out and buy gear when they are up to their ears in debt. I bought a good amount of gear this year but it was all geared toward new live streaming clients so it did make me money. I am debt free also and putting money into real estate investments, every piece of gear I buy is for cash. Just all expendables. The $12k live streaming computer I built this year is already outdated and it was just finished two months ago. Not an investment. An expendable.

Most people in our business are not very astute with the basics of business, but all of those axioms and cliche's are true. Be debt free. Make intelligent investments. Invest in yourself with learning new skills and improving your existing skills. Start or continue to invest in your 401k. Gear in our business should all be considered expendables. Cameras. Computers. Software. It's all just necessary expendables and none are actual investments or if you think they are, they are very short term lousy investments.

I agree with the others that owning a certain camera, especially in your market, means very little. When I hire a shooter in NYC, I usually have a camera in mind. But I don't hunt for a shooter that owns the camera. If they don't, I tell them to rent one or borrow one.
