Gini Rig

Hi all,

I received my Gini-Rig today. What can I say. There where some spare tubes as a gift in the package, the mentioned follow focus mini ist their new follow focus in the full version. All in all, it's a steal for that price. Can't beliefe, that a Zacuto rig is worth the $ 2000 plus.

For some strange reason I can't find Gini Rigs on eBay (I found them a couple weeks ago, but haven't seen any in the last few days).
I found this other website which I thought is the official store (http://www.gini-rig.com/) but seems considerably higher than the $500 price tag every is talking about. Does anyway know of the Gini Rig eBay shop / username?

Cheers mate. Now to decide which ones suits best for my needs...

*EDITED* Ended up grabbing a K-5 for just under 500US (+postage) on one of his auctions. Can't wait to get delivery of it.

Got delivery of my K-5 Gini Rig today. Two business days and it arrived on my work desk in Australia. Packaged extremely well, and looks like he threw in some free pads or something. Now the task of putting the thing together correctly.

I am the OP and I finally broke down and bid on one. It came well packed with 10 days and the quality is good. Not great, but definitely good. It cost perhaps a fifth of a Zacuto and it's definitely more than 1/5 as good. I'd say it's 8/10 as good. It came with a "free" follow focus.

I placed a 2nd order for a a more adjustable, Zacuto-like baseplate that also came with a follow focus. The baseplate adjustments aren't perfect but it's solid.

Both of the FF have play, with the 2nd one having a bit more. I'm buying a Zacuto zipgear. Hopefully they play well together.

Let us know how the Zacuto zipgear goes. Tossing between those, the Jag35 zip / zip tie gears. Been using the Gini ff without anything, and so far it has performed not too badly.

Amazing!

Amazing!

nvm he's started to list rigs here again.

After a long battle with budget rigs (and some not so budget, but I won't name names,) I have to say as far as a rig goes I am blown away by the quality of this rig....top notch machining and ingenuity, very solid! I just couldn't justify buying the alternative for 5 x the price having discovered Gini. Ok commercials over.

I ordered a Gini rig as well. It does "look" incredibly impressive for the money. I still waiting on it to arrive... in the mean time.
Can anyone comment on which type of lens gears they would recommend with this i-Focus thats included.
Im sure the belt style lens gear will be fine with my Nikon 85 1.4f, but i'm guessing that ill need to get a fixed gear for my 50 and 24mm.
The iFocus does look like it would clamp into place even with a smaller lens... but of course that would mean the knob would be in an odd position (closer to the top of my lens, rather then the side).
Basically, any reason I should NOT buy a cheap "fixed" lens gear for my small lenses? There are a few going for around $17 on eBay.

Also, it would be much appreciated if anyone can post pictures of their Gini Rig setup with a camera...

Also, I found the seller's focus gears:

But I'm trying to avoid the premium.

A B&H sales rep recommended the Ikan 2.5 to 4.25 ADJ LENS ZIP GEAR 3-PK for the rig. Just waiting for them to be delivered to me, and I'll be able to let you know how they go.

Below is my Gini rig with 5D Mk2 and 35L. I've yet to decide what monitor to get as I want to see if there is a better bang for your bucks monitor than the SmallHD.

Very slick! Im awaiting mine... any day now. What lens gear are you using? I ordered a fixed gear for my 28 and 50mm Nikons, and I got a cheap flexible lens strap for my 85mm. I hope they are all compatible. :D

Love my Gini rig! I took it to a friend who has a drill press and had him add a bunch of threaded holes all over the stuff to attach things to (monitors, etc).

Only complaint right now is that if you are using short lenses (like a 28mm prime) their follow focus gear cannot be flipped to the "nearer to the camera" side, so it isn't usable. Their new FF rig may solve that, but I got mine JUST before that came out, so caveat emptor.

That aside? LOVE it.

I wish there were an option to just order parts. I'm not really feeling the rigs they have available, and the parts I need are really just ones that are super expensive to get anywhere else (want to build a straight caged rig). Anybody have photos of any rigs they've built with these parts?

Just got the new Gini iFocus and a little rig to go with it. Both are INCREDIBLE for the price. The iFocus has very, very little, if any play / backlash.

I got a basic rig and Gini has a horizontal sliding plate for the camera that meshes really well with the iFocus.

For $260 total (plus shipping of $55), it's the best and most high quality piece of equipment I've ever had for that price. Simply amazing. The rig is easily in the same ball park as my friends Zacuto, but way, way cheaper.

I assume you got your rig by now. Can you tell me if the lens gears worked out? Any comments? Thanks.
