I talked to him in english and he replied pretty well... Just remember he's at +12h timezone, so expect his answers on late night.
BTW, my gini rig is right now in UPS vehicle for delivery. Will make a review.
From what I hear (on this forum), it's really hit and miss with him. I believe someone is still waiting to hear back from him, and it's been a few months. Keep pressing him, I guess.
I bought a gini rig a while back...right after the Japanese nuclear reactor trouble started. Great quality milled aluminum...can get heavy, but I'm out of shape.
When initially bidding/best offer on ebay I was aware of his language barriers, from reading on here, and resorted to crafting my messages to him in a "Y U No Guy" style of writing...which seemed to work well as it was simple and direct.
Shipping was quick...and the box was a bit beat up, but everything inside was pristine and wrapped really well in bubble wrap. He forgot to include a LH bracket but quickly mailed it out with two short rods, as gift, when I contacted him about it.
I went to lowes and got some shorter screws, M5x.8, and switched them out on the knobs so they tighten quicker...but I always have proper size hex driver with me when I use my rig so I can really tighten those screws down.
i guess dealing with gini is hit or miss, but i had a good experience. i heard about the poor communication issues and i was afraid that when asking to switch the type of handles, he would misunderstand and end up sending out a whole other rig, but i got exactly what i asked for. just communicate with him as simply as possible and everything should go smooth.
based on the very positive experiances of most buyers, I decided to bid on a rig and won the auction. The deal was really a bargin to be honest. I expectet the Gini guy to ship as fast as all the buyers mentioned, but he didn't. Despite many, many emails, he never replys. I wonder what to do now. I payed via paypal (buyer protection), but I'm much more keen on getting the rig instead of getting my money back. Hopefully he'll reply one day, but if he don't move, I need to get in contact with paypal. Has nayone any ideas how to deal with the situation? Is there anyone who has a phone number of this guy?
How much time ago did you win the auction and you haven't yet receive the rig?
Consider it is August, and the seller could simply be in summer vacation (not replying mails).
And also consider it has to be shipped from Korea, so it will be fast but not lightning fast...
Anyway, wait some more time.
You have up to 45 days from the end of the auction before opening a non-received item case with eBay and paypal.
I guess it will be all sorted by then
I bought two rigs on two seperate occasions and had them in my possesion within a week, or less. The quality is as good as redrock, or whoever. they are really nice. Im shocked he can sell for so little. Either there's a serious markup on rigs, or he's getting material and labor for pennies on the dolar.
I'm aware that shipping from Korea won't get in two or three days. The only thing that worries me, ist that he doesn't reply to the mails, while being active on ebay. I've tried to keep my questions a simple as can be, so he should understand what I want or at least be able to translate it via Google. Furthermore, there hasn't been any UPS tracking number so far and no activity since two weeks. I suspect, that he regrets to sell the item for such a cheap price, cause after the auction was finished he brought it up again, but increased the starting bid for another $ 140.00. All in all, it's just pissing me off, that he doesn't reply to my really kind emails.
Well, it was $ 299.00 for the K-1 Rig plus free follow focus mini. Exactly the same is now on eBay for $ 449.00 as a starting bid. Original price (I wonder if one ever paid it) ist $ 1,070.00. It's pretty cheap and seem close to redicolous to me.
From my experience the communication with this guy is for the most part impossible, however he does deliver. when I purchased my rig he had it at a much higher "buy now" price even tho I paid considerably less and I also never received a tracking number. and in about a week and a half I received the rig.
I am so glad I purchased this particular rig as there is nothing any where near the value and is well built and not junk.
That's great news Whiz. One thing which concerned me the most, was, that I haven't received any tracking number. In most posts about the rigs, people where telling about how fast they got the tracking number and how fast the rig was shipped. I was aware that communication isn't easy with this guy, but at least, I don't wanna make friends, I just wanna get what I've paid for, thats all. I'll wait and hope that the UPS guy will ring one day (sooner or later). He'll get another two weeks now. Otherwise, I'll get in contact with paypal. Thanks for thist post...
if you really wnt to get his attention, just hit the buy it now button on every auction he has and puts up. So when all twenty of his rigs are "buy it now" from the same person he will have no choice but to answer your emails and send your rig., lol I'm kidding, I have heard he takes time to answer emails, but at the very least I would send two at a time, so their back to back in his account. easier to get his attention.
I had pretty much the same idea, but was too chicken that I'll having trouble with ebay then. Well, maybe one can create a fek account? Anyways, I'l wait and see what happens.
I haven't received any tracking number either if I remember well. And all my questions have been answered (in a spartan way) several days after the question was sent. But he kindly replied even when after receiving the item and leaving positive feedback, I have complained about the UPS shipping method that obliged me to pay ridiculously high customs taxes, whereas a priority signed for shipping method would have avoided me to pay that much, while still being traceable and secure.
Anyway, most probably you'll get your UPS package pretty soon.
Good news! I finally received an answer from the Gini guy. It took at lest more then two weeks, but he apologized for the late reply and promised to ship the rig by the weekend. I'm looking forward to receiving the rig soon.
