I did the exact same thing. ahaahah They had it on the cameras at their booth, it's looks like a proper log even on the lcd. The rep I talked to was really nice and he said that it's going through heaps of testing. Panasonic doesn't want to put out something that all of us on here will be complaining about the second it becomes available.

I respect that.

I'm very curious how V Log will handle noise.

It will probably have a preset aggressive NR which the user can't disable. I'm basing this "speculation/opinion" from the testers photos of the menu where some profile setting controls where greyed out in V-log mode.

Hopefully not. This will introduce a lot of banding (Samsung NX1 e.g.).
We need the noise (-5 noise reduction and sharpness) for better grading. (Dithering)

The settings that were disabled were regarding contrast, saturation, and hue... all of which makes sense if you're making a logarithmic profile.

Sharpness and Noise reduction are still available.

Thanks for posting that. I was trying to find that particular pic and i only remembered there were greyed out settings and not which ones.

Panny needs to release: "The Film maker pack" V-log lite, more frame sizes including 4.2k 4.5k layouts, a variety of aspect masks for the display, more slow mo, additional profiles storage including popular LUT looks in camera, speedier APP - get some buzz going for it, then release it right after the a7 II releases. :)

With the new a7R II announcement from Sony, Panasonic better get their skates on, or there'll be a lot of defections....

+1
Yeah agreed, first it was BMD now Sony, I am now looking at my finances for defecting to this new Sony, the A7s did not do what I want, but this cam seems to be a different story totally, however I'll wait and see what the RS is like amongst other things.
But yeah Panansonic needs to put rocket boosters on, if they want stay relevent in 2016, the V-Log wait and wait ...wait...wait, has been thoroughly eclipsed by the new announcements from rivals Sony and BMD...makes you wonder!!

I think unless the GH5 has IBIS - its going to be a hard sell.

I'm way way too invested in the m43 ecosystem to move (and too be honest at the moment I have no reason too, as I like the output) but all these features that are now being incorporated (5axis IBIS, Log Gamma, uncompressed HDMI, ultra slowmo, timecode etc etc) - Many of which aren't just gimmicks, but things that help you make better videos (IBIS for a start) make the competition very attractive...

There are many functions missing on the GH4, which really annoy me - and what it more annoying they are probably simple to add/fix via FW, yet you try and pass on your comments to Panasonic and it feels like no one is listening.

V-LOG-L would be a good sweetener at the moment...

The only ace in the hole the GH4 has over the a7R II is proper DCI 4K (4096x2160x24.00fps), something I will be using on a feature film soon.

Does anyone know if Sony has a history of firmware updates that could add that aspect ratio and framerate? Seems quite doable given the sensor specs. I also presume that internal recording will still be 8bit 4:2:0 on the a7R II.

V-log L released now will certainly breathe new life into the GH4 if it's touted alongside the DCI 4K as a true filmmaker's camera. But they need to act, and fast, because I'm definitely curious about the new Sony and its out-of-the-box SLog2 Gamma given I'm rolling on a feature film probably in the next month or two....

Panasonic needs to address the issues which the GH4 has had since day one before any of this icing on the cake stuff.

And they might with GH5 ... whenever it comes out.

Given the speed of this tech cycle, GH4 lost a lot of its edge quickly. Maybe the replacement isn't that far away.

On the other hand, with the price holding steady, it's an indication that it is.

Can we not predict some big price drops now though? Especially 2nd hand? The A7 r2 seems so fricking amazing that a lot of the pro/ semi pro people with GH4s will jump ship.... maybe leaving some good deals for the rest of us who would never spend that much on a camera?

The GH4 is half the price so I don't expect to see much movement there, but this might be really bad news for Canon with their current 5D Mk3 or the coming 5D Mk4 cameras.
