GH4 GH4 V-Log FREE !!

I too was able to successfully get Vlog on my camera.

Hey man, if you leave a door open into a concert I wanna see and I don't have the ticket, I'm going in.

When you have all the info at hand to write the firmware update, it is not a big deal. Vlog itself was already developed. This is about leverage and if Panasonic does not pull their corporate heads out off their behinds Sony is going to gobble up panasonics lunch.

It's not like this is a hack. This is using the software as provided. In all likelihood, I would have stumbled onto this noodling around with the image app myself...Playing around with the internally recorded 8-bit V-log, I'm finding it quite noisy, noisier than ASA 400 should be. And the varicam LUT is keeping the blacks quite elevated, more than the Shogun recorded v-log was. As expected, I'm seeing banding as I push the grade, and not very far. Color looks good though. Will have to experiment more. On the plus side, focus peaking works fine. Actually, it's easier to make out in the washed out Vlog image.

I think this is quite embarrassing for all of you to pile on here. It is a $99 upgrade that totally improves the camera yet folks are acting like Panasonic owes it to them and will they will make em' pay by stealing it. Really? And you wonder why Panasonic broadcast has left this space blank (AF200)? Why would any company want to "serve" this market? A $1,300 camera that shoots 4k video that now costs $1,400. You could pay this off in one or two real jobs. Yet an error leads to people hoarding the mistake so people can continue to steal it going forward.

Why this hysteria to get something for free? Do you not want to compensate the engineers that are bringing this to fruition on a stills camera?

Bassman2003- exactly my thoughts. We're talking 99 bucks here.

Take it easy. We maintain a more respectful tone here.

Yeah exactly. BTW already got it to work and for those wondering the steps are:
1) Install 2.3 firmware.
2) Install the image app on smartphone (my mistake was trying it trough PC)
3) Turn on app and camera.
4) On GH4 choose first connection option (QR code)
5) Scan the code with the app for connection.
6) When connected, choose photo style and under that choose V-Log.
7) Save V-log as custom photo style.

Done.

Vlog L Confirmed!
BTW: vlog L footages are noisy at iso 400!

not noisy if you don't use any more of the dynamic range that you had before the update. Vlog l extends mostly into the shadow end of the sensor raw data and very little if at all into the highlight end. Not a Sony fanboy, but.... Come on Sony eat panasonics lunch, teach them a lesson.

Btw, best is to backup the APK file (android) and the firmware. That way they can plug the loophole all they want - if you install the current version of the Image App, you'll always be able to use the loophole. I know I did ;)

So now my day tomorrow is ruined ...

I've been a Magic Lantern user for a long time when I had my canons, I am still a moderator over at ML and ethics is always something we discuss. There was a thin line that the code makers walked as to not infringe on Canon's copyrights, there is a difference when you reverse engineer code, ML was officially a software add-on that piggybacked on canon code and it never altered the canon dode nor did it swipe and reside on the camera ROM thus ML is always needed on the CF/SD card. I mentioned this in length to inform people that sadly, this is VLOG access is not even a hack, its an oversight on the part of panny, the backdoor was not secure, the floodwaters poured thru that door. Nothing was "stolen" since the code was already given FREE via a FREE firmware. It is accessed or "activated" via another FREE APP. Sooner than later it was bound to be found, just so happened someone from China found it first and shared it on their Forums, which was shared to FB. It didnt require some secret button press but rather thru a normal operation of changing settings via the APP. So sadly, as Erik said, the train has left the station.

Panasonic could be fair play and enable VLog L for free in a 2.4 firmware update. It's the only smart move they can do now.

Anyone have the metabones 1.7 firmware for EF to m43 speedbooster S? Seems it can't be downloaded from their site. ;(

So glad to get to test it. Still have my order, not going to cancel, but fun surprises are always nice.

The way I see it: Panasonic, as soon as they get wind of this (I'm sure they probably already have), will push an update to their app to disable this. That process will take a couple of days (maybe Apple will expedite if Panasonic asks nicely). So then many will be unhappy they didn't get in on it for free, but that's life.
Then, Panasonic will have to decide, do they do nothing and just let the lucky ones go on using the profile, or do they release a new firmware with some nice little features people want, but will disable V-log in their custom profile.

Honestly, I was really hoping for a few other nice little features in the 2.3 firmware update, and didn't get any (although for the few timelapses I've done, it is nice to be able to interrupt it more easily), so maybe this will force Panasonic to add a little more to this already wickedly awesome camera.
